Hello Families,
As we continue working together to create an Exceptional Place to Learn, Work, and Engage in our schools, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and involvement. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference in our community, and this past month was a great example of that.
Facilities Focus Groups: Your Input Matters
District leaders recently met with 142 community members, staff, and students to gather valuable insights on our school facilities. Focus group discussions provided important perspectives on our current spaces, future needs, and areas for improvement. The feedback shared will directly inform the work of the Facilities Advisory Committee as we continue planning for the future of our schools. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed their voices to this process!
Enhancing Safety and Well-being: Thank You Crossing Guards!
Community support takes many forms, during the week of February 17-21, we had the chance to recognize a special group of individuals who help keep our students safe every day, our crossing guards!
In celebration of Crossing Guard Appreciation Week, the School District of Whitefish Bay and the Recreation and Community Education Department delivered donuts and hot chocolate to our dedicated crossing guards. Families and students also joined in by sharing kind words, smiles, and messages of appreciation throughout the week.
Rain, snow, or shine, our crossing guards ensure students get to and from school safely. Many of our crossing guards have been serving for over 20 years, forming lasting connections with our students and families. Their commitment is truly invaluable, and we are grateful for their dedication. It was a joy to celebrate them, and we appreciate all the families who took part in showing their gratitude!
Thank you for your continued support in making our schools and community a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Your Partner in Education,
Jamie

Facilities Planning
The District is conducting a long term facilities planning process. On September 18, 2024, the School Board approved a Facilities Charter, a document that will guide the facilities planning process. The Charter was created based on input from the Board, as well as the Facilities Subcommittee. Stay engaged and up to date throughout the process that could have a major impact on the future of the District!
Facilities Advisory Committee
The Facilities Advisory Committee, chaired by community members Nahid Afsari and Nicole Miskel, includes nearly twenty school community members, including family members, recreation participants, staff, and students, as well as board members, administrators, and outside consultants. The committee will learn about District needs related to facilities plan development with the goal of providing a recommended plan to the Board of Education.
Areas of learning for the group included:
- School Safety & Security
- Learning Environments with a Focus on the Middle and High Schools
- Learning Environments with a Focus on Richards and Cumberland
- Building Tours: Richards, Middle School, High School
- Visits to Nicolet Union High School and Bayside Middle School to see their recently updated spaces

Facilities Focus Groups
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the 142 students, staff, and community members who participated in one of the nearly thirty Focus Groups that were held at the end of February. Your input and feedback will be analyzed by the Facilities Advisory Committee and will help to inform their work as they progress through the long range planning process.

Strategic Planning Update
The District is incredibly grateful to all community members who joined us for the Continuing the Conversation event in the Cumberland Great Room on December 4, 2024. Highlights from the event included:
- Recapping the highlights of the 2023 Community Conversation;
- Providing an overview of prioritized vision elements that emerged from the event and review progress that has been made with each element;
- Soliciting reactions and suggestions to assist the District to move toward a desired direction.
Based on conversation and feedback from December 4th event, the District created a Summative Report. Topics included in the report highlight each of the priority areas identified at the Community Conversation in December 2023, with an emphasis on things are going well and potential areas of opportunity moving forward.
