From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
Happy Independence Day! We hope you have a great celebration with your family. As we give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy in this nation, we also are grateful for the ultimate freedom we have in Jesus, who has freed us from sin, death, and the devil. As Jesus says about Himself: “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
To all of you who helped with Zion’s Red, White, and Bluegrass joint service this past Sunday, THANK YOU! We had nearly 500 people worship with us from both our 8 am and 10:45 am services – along with lots of guests. It was incredible to be together as one church family. We hope the service was a blessing to you!
This weekend, we’ll continue our study on the book of Exodus with a look at one of the most famous events in the history of the nation of Israel – the Passover. The story is found in Exodus 12:3, 5-8, 11:
Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month they must each select an animal of the flock according to their fathers’ families, one animal per family. You must have an unblemished animal, a year-old male; you may take it from either the sheep or the goats. You are to keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembly of the community of Israel will slaughter the animals at twilight. They must take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat them. They are to eat the meat that night; they should eat it, roasted over the fire along with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Here is how you must eat it: You must be dressed for travel, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You are to eat it in a hurry; it is the Lord’s Passover.
At first glance, it seems strange that God would command Israel to sacrifice lambs. And yet these sacrifices were meant to give Israel insight into how God would work through an ultimate and final sacrifice – the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. Even though we no longer need these ancient sacrifices, they still have a lot to teach us. Find out what we can learn from the Passover this weekend in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

A Message From the Principal
Please Join us in Welcoming Mr. Jason Reichert as our 8th Grade Teacher!
Please join us in welcoming our new 8th grade homeroom teacher - Jason Reichert! A few words of introduction from him: “I consider it a blessing to serve as the middle school science teacher at Zion Lutheran School. I have lived in the Round Rock area since 1978. I was a middle/high school teacher for many years before becoming an analyst with Apple Maps in 2019. I joined Zion Lutheran in the spring of 2024, and I look forward to getting more involved in church and ministry activities such as Wurstbraten and Faith and Film with Heather Ullmann, my fiancé. We are planning a November wedding at Zion, and I will relocate from Liberty Hill to Salado at that time. I enjoy reading historical fiction, exploring small-town Central Texas, and hiking with my fiancé and two sons - Donovan (14) and Thaddeus (21)."
We pray God's richest blessings on Jason, as he joins our Zion team!
Dr. Wrege Takes a Position with DAST Consulting
God has led Principal Wrege to a consulting position, whereby he will serve Lutheran schools throughout the country with sustainability plans. He has been blessed to lead Zion for ten wonderful years, and now Mrs. Winkelman will assume the position of interim for the new school year. His new position will be one where he works from his home, so he and Mrs. Wrege will not need to move. And how pleased we are that Mrs. Wrege can continue as teacher of our Pre-Kindergarten class!
There will be a celebration of Dr. Wrege’s ministry at both services on the 4th of August. All are welcome!
Middle School Teachers
Since Mrs. Winkelman will be moving into the position of interim principal, there will be some changes in the middle school teaching team. We hope to be able to share these changes in the coming days.
Parlor Bible Study
The Parlor Bible Study (Sunday mornings 9:30-10:30am) is beginning a study of the Apostles' Creed. Many of us placed Luther's Small Catechism on the shelf after confirmation, but there is so much we have forgotten. This is a chance to return to the book that helped us realize the truths of the Trinity: a mystery made known throughout the Bible.
