Principal's Peek at the Week
Saints Joseph and John School - May 2, 2024
“Hold fast to the hope that lies before us.” – Hebrews 6:18
GOD BLESS OUR STUDENTS RECEIVING FIRST COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION
First Communion and Confirmation mark significant milestones in our students' faith journeys. Please join me in congratulating our 8th graders of both St. Joseph Parish and St. John Neumann Parish as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. Please keep our 2nd graders in your prayers as they receive their First Communion on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church and at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church.
We will celebrate our 2nd and 8th graders together at our school's Sacrament Mass and reception on Monday, May 20 at 8:05am. Students in those grades should wear their First Communion/Confirmation attire, and they will be dismissed following Mass. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend this special Sacrament Mass and reception.
May our students always feel the presence of God guiding them through life's journey!

PRESCHOOL PEEK AT THE WEEK
The Little Vikings' last few weeks of school have been filled with activities, visits, and New Life!
We welcomed 10 Painted Lady Butterflies to our classrooms this week. Our youngest students were able to observe the life cycle firsthand.
Fr. Andy led our P4's on a quick tour of St. Joseph Church. It was special to spend time in God's house and learn about the different things we see during Mass.
We welcomed an educator from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History who visited the P4's to review all things God's creatures need to live.
THANK YOU VIKING CAFE STAFF!
THANK YOU Mrs. Gyurko, Mrs. Reagan and Mrs. Lechler! We celebrate you on Friday, May 3 for School Lunch Hero Day for the amazing work you do to ensure our students at SJJ are well-fed every day!
LAST DAY TO PURCHASE BIRTHDAY TICKETS
The last day to purchase birthday tickets for Snack Bar is Monday, May 13! In an effort to minimize waste, we will also use our remaining stock for Snack Bar for the last three weeks of the school year.
Please note that some items may not be available during this time. We appreciate your understanding as we prepare for summer break!
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Gyruko at sgyurko@sjjschool.org.
SJJ WELCOMES MRS. NOGA TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHING TEAM
Mrs. Allison Noga is thrilled to join Saints Joseph and John School as the new middle school social studies teacher. After earning a degree in journalism with a minor in history, she worked in the news for four years but realized that was not her calling. She went back to school to obtain her middle childhood teaching license, with specializations in social studies and language arts, and for the last two decades has been passionate about making learning enjoyable for her students. Spending most of her career at Saint Ambrose School, and most recently at Our Lady of Angels School, she pushes her students to think critically about history and make real-world connections through projects, discussions, debates, and more.
"I am excited to join the SJJ family and become part of this incredible school community," she said.
Mrs. Noga replaces Mr. Leneghan, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

See below for details about the special programming offered during VBS for Preschoolers and for 5th & 6th graders to meet them where they are!
For Preschoolers: CGS @ VBS
We’re so happy to offer VBS to a younger set of children! They will participate in the same Games, Crafts, Music, and Snacks as the older grades, but will be welcomed into our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Atrium for faith formation instead of the regular VBS classes. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a hands-on faith formation experience like none other, and we know your children will love entering the Atrium room for some very special prayer work. Preschool ages are 3-5, not yet entering Kindergarten (Kindergarteners join regular VBS!). Must be potty-trained, or parents must be on site.
For 5th & 6th Graders: VBS with a Twist
We always want to offer content that engages our youth at their level, so our older children in this transitional stage between elementary and middle grades will experience an amped up version of VBS made just for them! They will have more in-depth Bible study during their faith lessons, a service project or two (including helping some of our younger VBSers one-on-one with their crafts!), opportunity for deeper prayer, plus fun team building and leadership activities – all fitting neatly within the VBS framework.
