The "Until Thanksgiving" Challenge..
We have 17 student days until Thanksgiving.
I challenge EVERY adult in this building to pick a difficult student you see regularly and, for the next 17 days, regardless of anything the student has done in the past or the behavior they exhibit during those 17 days, do something each day to show that student you believe in him/her.
Some examples might be:
- Greeting the student by name and telling him/her you are glad to see him/her
- Giving the student a legitimate compliment
- Asking the student to tell you more about a personal interest
- Asking the student how his/her day is going
- Taking extra time to work with the student one on one
Rationale:
1) It feels good to be nice to people. You will feel happier because you did this.
2) People who receive positive support on a regular basis make more positive decisions than those who are not (probably part of why they are difficult students...just saying)
3) They just might realize that you actually care about them and will decide to be less difficult for you.
One student. 17 days.
Positive Contacts
November is a short month, and I do consider your feedback, so maintain at least 4 positive calls. Many of you have been reaching out to many more than 4 students which is earning you extra credit both in my heart and on the assignment!
