From the Principal
Dear Steele families,
This week Steele’s School Leadership Team (SLT) and Collaborative School Committee (CSC) met to provide recommendations for Steele’s 25/26 school year budget. As a school, we are solving a budget deficit of approximately $60,000. If you missed the meeting you can check out the slides including the budget scenarios here.
Many of you may wonder why we face a deficit despite the generous contributions from our PTA. The primary reason is that Steele is currently overstaffed based on district standards. We've been using PTA donations and budget reserves to maintain our beloved programming and support our robust staffing model.
For a more comprehensive understanding of Steele's budget process, please visit this link. We've also compiled a list of frequently asked budget questions, which you can find in the slide deck.
After thorough discussions and valuable input from our SLT and CSC, we've decided on the following changes to our staffing model:
Reducing our Gifted and Talented FTE to 0.8
Reducing one paraprofessional position
I want to assure you that these decisions were not made lightly. Our teams determined that this scenario would have the least impact on our students while addressing our budget constraints. We remain committed to providing an exceptional learning environment for all our students.
Thank you to our SLT and CSC for their thoughtful recommendations and to all of you for your ongoing support and understanding.
Check out this week’s Caught in the Act Winners!
