A few reminders:

• Please follow the rules of the road when driving for drop off - our school is in a neighborhood and we want to be sure we are being good neighbors with our parking and driving! We've received calls from neighbors this week who are very frustrated with blocked driveways and have alerted the Park Ridge police.
  
• Please remember that there is no supervision before or after school on the playground or blacktop. Children should be supervised by a grown-up.
• Please be sure you call the main office as early in the day as possible if your child is not taking the bus home.

On Thursday, October 17th, the 4th and 5th graders at Field School were treated to a special author/illustrator visit by the dynamic mother/daughter team of, Rachel Renée Russell and Nikki Russell for their newest book that JUST came out on Tuesday, Dork Diaries 16: Tales from a Not-So-Bratty Little Sister. This dynamic team has been on the New York Times Best Seller list nineteen times in a row, and have their books translated in over 40 different languages. We were beyond excited to have them.

This interactive presentation talked about both of their book series, their lives growing up, where they get their story ideas, words to live by, and much more. The biggest surprise of the author visit was when the illustrator, Nikkie Russell, "dorkified" some of our Field School students. Each student that was randomly chosen was gifted a portrait of themselves in "Dork Diary" style. What an amazing keepsake. We are thankful to The Book Stall in Winnetka for bringing this amazing author visit to Field School. We also want to thank Mandy Ori and the Sign Gypsies for donating the amazing welcome sign- the Russell ladies said it was their best welcome in their 15 years of doing school visits.

If your child missed the opportunity to order a book ahead of time, the Book Stall reopened their orders and will be accepting orders for autographed books until Wednesday, October 23rd. These books will be delivered to school the week of the 28th. Click here to place your order.

Field School will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31st in the afternoon. Please review this handout for more information about our plans. Special thank you to our PTO room parents who will spearhead our classroom celebrations.

We are excited to offer you a way to track your child’s bus through the “Here Comes the Bus” app! You can easily download the app on your phone and start tracking your child or children on their bus routes starting on Tuesday. We rolled out the app to families at Roosevelt, Washington, and Lincoln first and now we are completing the implementation District-wide.

Below are the directions regarding the app and some training materials if you choose to view them.

• Please proceed with downloading the app to your phone and setting up an account.

  • In the App Store or on Google Play search for ‘Calamp’ and you will see the Here Comes The Bus app to download.

  • To set up the account, click the ‘Sign Up’ option at the bottom of the login screen.
    

  • Click Login & Sign Up Today.

  • You will have to check your email for two-factor authentication, but you want to set this up on your phone and not on your laptop.

• When asked, the school code is 30250.

• Please add students to your account. You will need the last name and student ID. from PowerSchool. If you need help logging into the PowerSchool parent portal, the directions are here. You will need your students last name and student ID number to track the bus.

All students will eat in lunch in one of our large group spaces (north gym, south gym, or MPR). Students will sit at tables in assigned seats by homeroom. Students are able to bring their lunch from home or purchase a lunch in advance. If you are interested in ordering lunch from Quest, please visit our website linked here for more information. Lunch orders are due by Thursday at midnight for the following week. As a reminder, we do not allow lunches to be delivered to students from outside vendors or restaurants. If your child forgets his or her lunch at home, you are able to drop it by the main office and we'll deliver it to them. If you can't bring a forgotten lunch, we can offer your child cheerios and milk.

Children are also permitted to leave school for lunch. Parents need to come to the main office and sign out their child(ren). Students would remain home for the full hour of lunch/recess.

Our PTO sponsors a weekly pizza lunch on Tuesdays. Please be on the lookout for information on ordering your child's weekly pizza soon!

We are taking submissions for the Fall 2024 issue of the Field Flyer! Field Flyer is published a few times a year and features student artwork, jokes, interviews and more. See the attached file for inspiration - show us your best work!

Please email your submissions by Friday, Nov 8 to fieldflyer707@gmail.com. You can also drop them off to the office by the same due date.

Deadline to submit the 1st day of school, back to school bash, and Walk-a-thon pictures is October 27th. Remember to send them to fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com and please include your child’s grade level in your email.
