Notes from the Principal
Dear John Wetten Families,
We have had a tremendous start to the school year this fall! The first few weeks have emphasized building routines and relationships with new classmates. It is wonderful to see our young students thriving in the caring and supportive environment we have at John Wetten. Our students, teachers, support staff, and families work so well together.
Fall marks our first benchmark testing, which measures student progress in math and reading. All of our students participate in Star Math and DIBELS Reading testing. We use this information to help make the best instructional decisions possible for each student. October is also our first progress reporting period. Keep a look out for your students progress report to come home in their backpack at the end of October. While each of these assessments and reports provides information regarding how your child is performing, they will continue to grow throughout the year. Our school team looks forward to celebrating this with you!
As always, if there is anything we can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Parking for Pickup
Please make sure you are not parking next to any designated yellow curb areas around the building. These are no parking zones at all times to make a clear pathway for Emergency vehicles. Code Enforcement has been out ticketing cars parked in these areas.
Annual Notice for Oregon's Statewide Summative Assessments
The Annual Notice for Oregon's Statewide Summative Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics has been posted to the school district websites.
Zones of Regulation at JWE
John Wetten Elementary is utilizing the school-wide Zones of Regulation social emotional learning. The purpose of this is to promote a school-wide common language that is intended to help students identify emotions they may be experiencing throughout the day. This in turn builds school stamina and self-regulation skills. When students are able to better recognize how they are feeling, it helps them take the steps to self-regulate and become more engaged in their learning. Please take a minute to review the Zones of Regulation chart in our newsletter. Also, feel free to use this as a tool at home if you desire.
Sincerely,
John McAndrews
