Restorative Update: Supportive Environments
In December, North View shared our Code of Conduct and emphasized using restorative practices to collaborate with students and families. This month, we’re focusing on safety’s key role in fostering a supportive learning environment.
Students learn best when they feel safe. A regulated mind, guided by the prefrontal cortex, allows focus and connection. That’s why we’re committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces for students and families, both physically and emotionally.
At North View, restorative practices shape how we address safety and challenging moments. When students experience dysregulation—whether from a classroom challenge or a hallway conflict—we use Dr. Bruce Perry’s three-step approach:
- Regulate: We first help students calm their bodies and minds through mindfulness activities, a walk with a staff member, or time in a mindfulness space.
- Relate: Next, we connect with students, ensuring they have a trusted adult—such as a Social Worker, Case Manager, Teacher, Administrator, or ESP—to talk to and process the situation.
- Reason: Finally, we work collaboratively to address the situation constructively, discussing how to move forward and, when needed, repairing harm to restore relationships.
This process helps create a safe, supportive environment where students, staff, and families can heal and thrive after challenges.

Attendance Boundary Update
Elementary and middle school attendance boundaries are changing in 2026 to balance enrollment across the district. Some households will be reassigned to different Osseo Area Schools.
Proposals and Feedback: Draft proposals, based on community-developed parameters, were shared at district279.org/boundaries on Jan. 14.
Community Meetings: Meetings were held on the dates below and presentations were also be livestreamed on the Osseo Area Schools YouTube Channel.
- Jan. 15, 5:45 PM: Brooklyn Middle STEAM School cafe
- Jan. 23, 5:45 PM: Maple Grove Middle School cafe
Timeline: The school board will set the final boundaries by May 2025. The changes will start in fall 2026, when a new elementary school opens in the district’s northwest.
Background: The Enrollment and Capacity Management Advisory Committee (ECMAC) has identified a significant enrollment imbalance and recommended boundary changes. The 2023 Building a Better Future referendum, supported by the community, provided funding for a new elementary school and additional space at Maple Grove Senior High, reducing the impact of boundary changes to elementary and middle schools only.
Stay Updated: Check the district website for ongoing updates.
