Administrative Assertions
ÉCCHS was involved in many events in April and there are many forthcoming events in May. Our students are extending their learning by delving into areas of interest beyond the classroom. From music festivals to badminton to handball to mathematics competitions to Skills Canada, there are a multitude of opportunities for our students! Thank you to our staff who assist in leading and organizing various events, clubs, and activities. At the Regional Skills Canada competition, our students received the following: Gold and Bronze in Hairstyling, Silver and Bronze in Welding, and Gold, Silver, and Bronze in Cabinetmaking. Special congratulations to three of our students who are off to the Provincial Skills Competition next week. At last week’s Camrose Music Festival, our Senior Concert Band won Most Outstanding High School Band, the Senior Jazz Band won Most Outstanding Stage Band and performed for the Gala Concert, as did our Choir which won Most Outstanding Choir and earned an invitation to Provincials in Edmonton at the end of May. Congratulations to all of our participating Music students!
We were excited for the tremendous turnout for our Open House on April 24. New students and their families attended to learn more about the school and receive a tour of the building. They were treated to an awesome art show, fabulous fashions activities, brilliant band rehearsals, and fantastic fabrications demos, to name a few events that occurred. Our incoming Gr. 9 students also learned a bit about what to expect for the opening few days next September. Potential new students who are interested in registering for the next school year should contact the ÉCCHS main office.
We are eagerly anticipating several upcoming events. Hats on! for Mental Health will be on May 8. On May 10 at noon, our student council is hosting the Show ‘n Shine and BBQ. Our school community is invited to attend the Pow Wow on May 16 from 10:00-2:30 that will feature several BRSD students as dancers. On May 17, Sam Demma will be delivering an inspirational message of resilience to our students. We will be celebrating our Grade 12 students at the Farewell on May 24. Interested in learning about the food, music, and fashions of cultures? Our school community is invited to attend our second annual Cultural Night on the evening of May 29 from 5:00-7:00. Camrose Composite Playhouse presents The Importance Of Being Earnest at the Lougheed Centre on May 31.
Advanced Placement Exams are just around the corner for our students who are in the AP program. Good luck to our students as they study and prepare for their exams!
Thank you to students for completing course selections in PowerSchool. Students will receive their timetables in May/June and should make any necessary changes to their timetables with the office before the end of June. Grade 12’s are encouraged to apply for ECCHS Awards by clicking here.

ÉCCHS Math Field Trip
On Thursday April 11, 15 students from ÉCCHS AP Calculus and Calculus classes attended the Totem Torus Math Competition at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton. Approximately 300 students from over 15 schools across Alberta attended this one-day event completing the University of Waterloo Canadian Team Mathematics Competition. This competition was the largest of its kind in all of Canada.
Students were broken into school teams of 5 or 6 students. Students were then tasked to complete problems in three different events over the course of the day: individual, team, and a 3 person relay. The curriculum and level of difficulty of the questions varied, pushing students to make links with ideas from grade 8 Math all the way to grade 12 Math.
Students also had the opportunity to hear from Jeff Anderson, a representative from the University of Waterloo. He spoke regarding the creation of the competition, discussed different approaches to solving difficult problems, opportunities available to students in the Mathematics field, and offered advice towards being successful in learning Mathematics.
The entire day was a unique opportunity that allowed students to interact with students who all shared a common interest in mathematics.
