Summer 2024
We celebrated the Class of 2028 at Trailside Continuation on May 29, 2024!
Summer is here!
Yesterday at 8th Grade Continuation, I was struck by how the summer brings both endings and new beginnings. We celebrated the Class of 2028 as they complete their time at Trailside and look ahead to the next chapter of their education in high school. Looking out at the 8th graders, there were many that I've known since kindergarten. I can still picture the younger versions of them. These long-lasting connections are one of my favorite things about a PK-8. We have the unique opportunity to work alongside a student and their family as they grow and evolve. As the 8th graders walked out to the ceremony, the Kindergarten through 7th grade students lined the hallways, cheering and clapping for them. One day, the younger students too will take their final walk down the hall, celebrated by the Trailside Crew.
During the ceremony, I encouraged the 8th Graders to celebrate these final moments with one another, as well as reflect on the lessons they learned that they want to carry forward. The same is true for all of us as we enter into the summer season. It is time for us to celebrate all we have accomplished in the last year. Our students have grown so much, both academically and personally. They have deepened their connections with one another in their classroom Crews. All this work at school depends on the support of our families. Families, thank you so much for your partnership and support. The hard work you do outside of school nurturing students results in their success in the classroom. I appreciate you and the community we've built together so much. I hope you all have a restful and fun summer!
Sincerely,
Jessie Massey
School Calendar and Start and End Times
A new calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was approved by the Board of Education last week. You can find a link to that calendar here. Please note - we will no longer have monthly late starts. A Trailside specific calendar with our school events will be posted to our website by the end of June, and shared again in August.
Additionally, start and end times have been adjusted around the district. Next year, the Trailside school day will be 7:50-2:55. Breakfast will be served from 7:35-7:45.
Our multi-age Better World Day Leadership Committee did a great job organizing the schoolwide mindfulness labyrinth project in early May! Thank you, Ms. Bemak, for coordinating this crew.
Goodbyes and Hellos
- Ms. Condon, who will be teaching high school next year.
- Ms. Lewis, who will be moving to North Carolina.
- Ms. Joelle, who will be moving to Texas.
- Ms. Oberbeck, who is pursuing a new professional adventure.
- Ms. Thomas, who will be caring for her baby.
Some current teachers will transition to new roles, and we will be welcoming some new members to our Crew as well. Our new staff members bring many experience and are excited to work at Trailside!
- Ms. Olivete will be teaching a third class of 1st grade, based on current projected enrollment for next year.
- Mr. Salas will be teaching third grade.
- We welcome Ms. Suzanne Morales, joining us most recently from JeffCo, to the 4th grade team!
- We welcome Ms. Sarah Richards, most recently from JeffCo, as the 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher!
- We welcome Mr. Andrew Ruchard, most recently from BVSD, as our school psychologist!
We are still finishing the hiring process for our new preschool teacher, and the posting for the Special Education Paraprofessional will be up soon. In August, teachers will introduce themselves to our community the week before school begins!
Another exciting change coming next year is the introduction of departmentalization in 4th and 5th grades. In this model, one teacher provides instruction for ELA and Social Studies, and their teammate provides math and science instruction. This allows teachers to focus their planning and better personalize instruction for individual students. This means students will have two teachers in 4th and 5th grades next year.
6th Grade TDAP Vaccinations
Colorado law requires all 6th grade students to have a current TDAP vaccination at the beginning of the school year. If you are the parent of a current 5th grader, please review your child's vaccinations and make an appointment this summer if your child needs a TDAP vaccine. Thank you for your help in keeping our community healthy! An information letter is available in both English and Spanish.
After learning about advocacy in their 4th EL Module, students chose to raise money for the Maxfund Animal Shelter. They ended up raising $750! Some animals from the shelter visited and the students were able to present their donation to Maxfund staff. Way to contribute to a better world, 4th graders!
Report Cards
Report Cards are available to be viewed in the Infinite Campus portal. A hard copy will be sent home today with Kindergarten - 6th grade students. 7th and 8th grade report cards will be mailed home.
