District 196 Today
Sep 23, 2024
District 196 Elementary Families and Staff:
At tonight’s School Board Meeting, our district began discussing proposed adjustments to elementary attendance areas for the next school year.
With a new elementary school opening next year, District 196 will need to adjust elementary attendance areas. We are considering changes at six of our elementary schools:
- East Lake Elementary
- Shannon Park Elementary
- Highland Elementary
- Diamond Path Elementary
- Rosemount Elementary
- Red Pine Elementary
The proposed changes are designed to meet three goals:
1) to alleviate overcrowding,
2) balance enrollment/provide equitable access to high-quality education across the district and
3) to protect space for early childhood learning at neighborhood schools.
Click on the video below to hear about the proposed changes. You may also look up your address to see your proposed attendance area for next year.
Family Information Meetings
Over the next four to six weeks, we will be holding Family Informational Meetings and collecting feedback about the proposal.
In District 196, elementary families love their schools, because we have equally excellent elementary schools. So, the idea of changing schools brings out many different feelings. We are here to support you and your family as we consider the proposals.
You are invited to attend any one of our Family Information Meetings to ask questions and share feedback. If you would like to request an interpreter, please contact languageservices@district196.org.
