Dear Muskego Lakes Families,

We had a fun-filled week at Muskego Lakes, and we hope your child had a memorable first couple days with us!

On the first day of school, we had a student in 5th grade who was feeling really nervous to be starting middle school. Two students from her homeroom came to the locker area, introduced themselves, and walked with her into the classroom. They figured out they are all into anime, and it was so sweet to see.

In the lunchroom this week, when we were eating lunch with a group of students, we noticed a student sit at a table by herself. Within less than a minute, four girls walked over and sat down with her. They asked her name, asked if they could sit with her, and they talked and laughed the rest of the lunch period together.

Finally, after lunches one day, there was paper towel all over the floor instead of the garbage. Two young men picked it up and threw it all away without being asked (and they were not the ones who left it there.)

We love seeing our students look out for each other and look out for the school to make sure Muskego Lakes is a place we all feel proud to be a part of.

We hope you have a fun and relaxing Labor Day weekend. We look forward to seeing our students back on Tuesday!

The first week here at Muskego Lakes was filled with fun, community building, and lots of smiles! Our staff was so glad to have students back in the building, and we loved seeing them interact together and hearing all about their summer! Here are some photos from our first week back at Muskego Lakes!

Please know that if you arrive after 8:05 am or 3:12pm, we ask that you use the 5 & 6th-grade area for pick-up and drop-off by the main entrance. Students still waiting after 3:12pm behind the school pick-up area will be directed to head to the main entrance area for pick-up. Thanks for your continued help in ensuring our pick-up and drop-off run smoothly.

All parent/guardians of students who ride on a bus should have gotten email with a link to activate your subscription to Stopfinder. If you didn’t get it, you can email Julie Kelly (julie.kelly@muskegonorway.org) who will resend you the invitation. The app will give you your student’s information about their route, pick up & drop off times, and is a Geocoded app so you can see your child’s bus in real time.

School pictures will be held on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021.

Family Weekly Test Kits

• For those that have registered for the weekly testing program, kits will be at schools in the health office ready to be picked up on Tuesday, September 7th. If you still plan to register, we will get more tests ordered and to the schools ASAP. And if you did sign up for kits, please remind your child to stop in before or after school to pick up the kits and then to drop off the samples when they arrive the next day.

COVID-19 Exposure or Symptoms Form

• Please to submit the follow form if you, your child, or anyone in your household has been exposed to and/or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. (Form: COVID-19 SYMPTOM OR STATUS NOTIFICATION FORM. After completing the form, someone from Health Services will be in touch with you about next steps.

MNS is pleased to offer a weekly COVID-19 testing program to students, staff, and families in partnership with Summit Clinical Laboratories. To opt into this program, please complete our online form by clicking here.

Wednesday, September 8th, Muskego High School will be completing fall testing. As a result, Muskego Lakes 7th and 8th Graders that attend classes at the high school will start the day at Muskego Lakes - doors open at 7:55am. They will report to the library at 8:05am and will use the time to take the iReady Math assessment for the fall. If they don’t take math at the high school, they will use the time for study hall.

Please refer to the MNS Health Services website for the latest health information including but not limited to COVID-19 guidelines, Illness and Injury guidelines, Immunizations, Forms, and other useful information.

iReady Fall Testing

Students will take the Fall iReady Assessment on the following dates:

• Math: September 8-10, 2021

• Literacy: September 14-16, 2021

The iReady Assessment is designed to get a clear picture of what students know and what they need to work on next. Talk with your child about doing their best and not stressing about wrong answers. In addition, it will be beneficial for students to ensure their chromebook is fully charged, has a pair of headphones, get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast on test days.

Last year, we received a lot of positive feedback regarding virtual Parent Teacher Conferences. We heard that many of you were able to participate from work, from across the country, and/or from home with little children. We heard you appreciated not having to find child care and not having to find your way around the building too! We also heard that you loved Meet the Teacher, the app that allowed you to build a schedule to see your child's teachers without having to wait in line and/or have gaps of time in between conferences.

So, we are looking for your help as we figure out plans for upcoming Fall Parent Teacher Conferences. We are wondering if we should:

• Go back to two nights of in-person conferences.
• Split our nights with one being virtual and one in person.
• Have both nights virtual (Families can schedule in person meetings as needed throughout the year.)

Important for you to know that doing both the same night with our Meet the Teacher app would present many logistical challenges. So at this time, we are not looking into that option.

We are asking you to please let us know your preference on this quick Google survey here so we can best meet your needs!

Our first meeting is on September 15th at 6:30pm in the Muskego Lakes library. We always welcome new faces and would love to hear your ideas in how we can make this an amazing school year ahead!!

Please join us for our first annual Swim-A-Thon at Muskego High School! Proceeds will benefits students at Muskego Lakes. Students will be receiving communication and information during homeroom on September 13th. Please look for this information to be coming home!
