The Delevan Digest
October 2024

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Delevan Families,
We are officially done with the first trimester here at Delevan and I am super proud of how well our students have done. I would like to start this newsletter off by celebrating our attendance rate which was 92.5% for the first three months. This is great as attendance is one of the most important factors for success in education.
Our character trait of the month for November was creative and for this upcoming month is kind. We had sixteen students recognized this past month for exhibiting great behaviors here at school and I cannot wait to see what this next month has in store for us.
We had a number of fun events during this past month. For veterans day we had Mr. Relyea come in and present to our 4th grade classes in the auditorium. We also had a math night for our families. To cap the month we had a variety of Thanksgiving activities for our students. From a Charlie Brown thanksgiving for our UPK classrooms to a wonderful Balloons on Broadway parade by our 4th grade students. Our P.E. and special area teachers even put on our first annual Turkey Trot here at Delevan. We had great participation from all of our students and even had some teachers join in the fun.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and we are looking forward to another great month.
Wishing you and your families the best!
Mr. Jansma

Veterans Day
Mr. Relyea, a veteran from the Vietnam war, came to visit our 4th grade students again this November. He presented the students with a PowerPoint that showed them National Monuments dedicated to those that fought and to those that died in the wars. He also showed them the uniform he wore and shared his experience at war. Our SRO, Deputy Nourse, also a veteran, joined Mr. Relyea and showed the students the uniforms soldiers where now and told them about his experience's. We were so fortunate to have him visit again this year and we look forward to him coming back next year for Veterans Day.

Free/Reduced Lunch
Pioneer Central School District is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program this school year. CEP is a federal program that allows eligible schools to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students. Every Pioneer student receives one free breakfast and one free lunch every school day. Nothing about the meals themselves has changed, and they all still meet the same nutritional standards they always have.
We will continue to collect the Education Benefits Form (formally meal application form) from families because this data is used to qualify the district for many forms of funding our schools. These funds help the district provide specialized services and school supplies directly to students that support ALL children in our schools. Forms can be filled out online at the link below or paper copy (available at the greeters desk). Information for families is included in the return to learn student folders.
