Happy New Year Hubbard Families and welcome back!
I hope you all had a safe, relaxing and enjoyable winter break! It is still so surprising how quickly the school year is going. It is never easy to return to the routines and demands of work and school after a long break, so we took time on Wednesday to do rotation stations where we reviewed routines and expectations in all areas of the building. Later that afternoon students met Rascal the Racoon who led us in an anti-bullying rally and talked about being a friend and not a bully. Students seemed to enjoy the lively performance. If they haven't already spoken to you about the assembly, be sure to ask them.
Operation Warm, a non-profit organization chose Hubbard to donate brand new coats for our students! Most of our students have already come home with their new coat. If your student was absent or if their size needed to be ordered, we will be sending those home as soon as they become available.
This is also a busy time of the year as we have so much more content to cover and many activities and celebrations. We look forward to sharing all of this with you in the coming weeks and months. As we enter the second half of the year, I continue to be amazed at the academic progress of our students and staff commitment to providing all students with what they need to be successful. Thank you, families, for your continued support of the work we do here each day. We couldn't do it without you😉 Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe and warm!

Stay in the Game Attendance Incentive
It's hard to come back after a 2 week break when it's cold. For all students who have perfect attendance and attend every day the first week back to school (January 6-10), they will have an opportunity to win a chance to ask a Columbus Crew member a question!
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding getting your student to school on time.

Let me Run- Help us form a team!
Let Me Run is a nonprofit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. Twice a week for seven weeks, trained volunteer coaches lead an elementary or middle school team through practice. Designed to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others, each practice includes a lesson that incorporates running, games and activities. Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5k race festival that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.Volunteers needed! Sign up here
Girls on the Run - Help us form a team!
Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
Girls on the Run is for grades 3-5. In order to form a team we need at least 2 coaches. Training will be provided, so it doesn't matter if you've ever coached before or if you are a runner. Please sign up here.
Season will run from March 3- May 18th, with practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:15 pm. Coaches do not have be parents of a participating student, so if you have a friend or family member who would be interested they can also apply to volunteer! High school students age 16-18 can apply to be junior coaches to assist the team as well.

Jan 27&28 - 4th and 5th graders
Special program on growth and development, includes hygiene/puberty information.
Jan 30- 2nd graders
Columbus Public Health Dental Sealant presentation
Feb 10- CPH Dental Sealant program is coming to Hubbard for the 2nd graders and to check those in 3rd grade that received treatment last year. I strongly recommend this program! Sealants are usually not covered by insurance and this is an opportunity to get them for free. Deep grooves in the back teeth are a very common site for cavities. Sealants prevent food particles from getting into those cracks, thereby stopping the formation of cavities. CPH is able to spend more time with each student, allowing for a better sealant than SMILES can provide.
When to keep your child home from school:
It is sometimes difficult to tell if you should send your child to school or not when they have coughs, runny noses, etc.
Keep your child home if any of these are true:
*Fever: A temperature of 100°F or higher
*Vomiting or diarrhea: A child should stay home for 24 hours after vomiting or having diarrhea. A single episode without a fever may not be reason enough to miss school.
*Rash: A new rash accompanied by a fever, headache, drowsiness, or other signs of illness
*Sore throat: A persistent sore throat could be a sign of strep throat or a virus. If strep throat is the cause, your child should take antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
*Head lice: Your child should stay home until they have been treated for head lice.
*Severe cold or flu: A child with a severe cold or the flu should stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours.
*Lethargy: If a student is too tired to be able to concentrate and learn, he or she should stay home.
*Other illnesses that may require your child to stay home include COVID-19, norovirus, chickenpox, measles, and hand, foot, and mouth disease
Lend a Helping Hand
We will need volunteers to help with the Quarter Party on January 17th from 1-3:30. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Ms Washington at kwashington1@columbus.k12.oh.us.

Seeds of Caring's Day of Youth Service is part of the larger MLK Open House event put on by The King Arts Complex every year and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration at Ohio History Connection. Seeds of Caring, with the generous support of White Castle and other sponsors, will have five different stations set up where kids ages 2-12 —along with their grown-ups — can contribute to their community in meaningful ways in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Activities will include: assembling cleaning kits for recently housed neighbors, making breakfast kits for kids experiencing food insecurity, creating sun catchers for senior friends to brighten their day, designing “Use Your Voice” posters, as well as a dream catcher reflection craft. This event is FREE but does require registration.
