Winter Weather Is Here!
Recess is a vital part of our elementary program, supporting both the physical and educational growth of our students. Fresh air and exercise play an essential role in their overall development, and recess provides an opportunity for them to recharge and stay engaged in their learning. With the ever-changing Michigan weather, it is imperative that your child is dressed appropriately and is prepared to play outside. District protocol is that if the real feel temperature is 10 degrees or above, the students go outside. During the winter season, every child should have a jacket, gloves or mittens, and a hat. If there is snow on the ground, snow boots and pants are necessary. If students do not have snow boots, they will be limited to the blacktop area on the playground. Don't forget to label all your child's items! Thank you!
***An extra pair of socks is encouraged due to sometimes wetter than average conditions***
Gym Days!
Gym shoes are necessary
Please encourage your child to bring or wear gym shoes and socks when they have gym class. While we encourage winter boots for the outdoor conditions, gym shoes with rubber soles are requested for the safety and comfort of the students.
Updates from the Office
Class Composite Order - If a student wants to purchase a class picture, parent may contact Kaiser's customer service at 248-619-9119 Ext 100 to place an order.
Yearbook order deadline - February 14th. Price increases $5 (please repost flyer)
Food Deliveries - Food that is delivered by a company such as Door Dash or Grub Hub will not be permitted at Havel for students. Due to school safety concerns and the disruption to the school day, we cannot accommodate such deliveries. We ask that all students bring their own lunch or get a free lunch from the cafeteria. If a student forgets their lunch, they may get a free lunch in the cafeteria, or a parent may drop off a lunch for their student. . This practice takes place at Bemis and the high school level in order to provide consistent expectations for our students. Thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your support.
Dress for the weather - Just as a reminder the office wanted to kindly remind parents that your student(s) have proper clothing for school, as the office will not be calling home to provide a change of clothes. It’s important for students to be prepared for any weather or activities that may come up. Thanks so much for your understanding and support!
Attendance - When a student is going to be absent, parents/guardians should report the absence before the school day begins. Calls to the attendance line at 586-797-5299 which can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will be received by an answering machine during non-school hours.
Lost and Found
Please encourage your children to check the lost and found. Items not claimed before the upcoming break will be donated. Thank you!

Family Vacations
Vacation or travel during school days is discouraged. Families should seek permission from a building administrator for an excused vacation absence prior to making any travel arrangements. The request should be made in writing at least one week prior to the vacation. Vacation absences of more than ten days in a semester will not be approved. Vacations taken without approval will be marked as unexcused absences. Arrangements should be made with the student’s teacher in advance as to timelines for completing class work. Homework may be requested and requires 24 hours to process.

Medication at School
Any child who needs to have medication administered at school will need to have completed medial forms on file for each medication. This includes over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol/Advil, cough drops, allergy medication, and others
Children may not bring any medication to school, including allergy medication, without signed medical forms on file. Please do not send medication to school in your child's backpack, such as inhalers, EpiPen, or over-the-counter medications as they will be asked to keep the medication in the office for parents to pick up. If your child needs to have medication in their backpack per doctor recommendation, UCS requires the completed medical form to be on file with the office.
