Let's Talk TPS
February 22, 2023
Leading the Way
Welcome back from the winter break. Although the recent weather pattern has been a bit out of the norm, our students are on a very familiar track - setting records and achieving new heights!
Over the past few weeks, Tenafly students have excelled in math and science competitions, participated in school-wide activities and events to help those who are in great need, and have set individual and team records in several athletic competitions. A few of our talented high school students were even part of a recent Grammy Award win. It's the Tenafly way!
As we look ahead towards March and celebrate special events such as Read Across America and Women's History Month, it is also an important time for planning our district budget for the 2023-2024 school year. I invite you to attend tonight's Budget Retreat and the March 13th Preliminary Budget Meeting (information on both meetings can be found below). Lastly, please be reminded that March 6th is an Early Dismissal Day for staff professional development.
Yours in Education,
Bruce Watson
Interim Superintendent

The New York Youth Symphony was recently awarded a Grammy for best orchestral performance which featured three Tenafly alums and four current students: Iris Sung '23 (concertmaster of the orchestra), Angelina Lee '23, Tyler Jeong '24 and Chang Yoon Kim '26. Princeton University Science Olympiad
Braving the cold and a long day of 23 events, our THS students recently participated in the Princeton University Science Olympiad Invitational which included 56 schools from across the nation. Although they did not place in the Top 5 this year, the students are truly energized for future competitions and enjoyed a brief tour of the Princeton campus. In fact, after placing 8th (an honorable mention) in a trial event of a "Science Bowl", the students went the extra mile to sign up for the National Science Bowl event that is conducted by the U.S Department of Energy. The State competition for this event is this Saturday, February 25th at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Best wishes to this motivated team!

SOUP-ER Bowl Collection
Mackay Elementary's “Soup-er Bowl” event was quite a success! They collected over 3,100 items for the Center for Food Action. Great to see our students so involved in this charitable cause. Featured to the right is the winning team for this year's donations.
TMS Hoops for Hope
The TMS Physical Education/Family Life staff and students "had a ball" while participating in this year's Hoops for Hope event. Dr. Hyman's Global Citizens Community club educated all TMS students about a global citizen initiative called, "A Need for Hope." This initiative facilitated by Global Citizens Community, a youth-based nonprofit organization aimed at promoting global citizenship among youth worldwide, will provide educational sponsorship to youth who are dealing with extreme poverty and trauma.
