LOCKDOWN DRILL FOR ELC K-3
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Thursday, September 26th, ELC will be participating in a lockdown drill. Our goal with this first drill is to explain to students in an age appropriate way why we would lockdown and practice the actions of students and staff during a lockdown. Teachers will be going over the purpose and the actions we take prior to the lockdown. Myself and Mr. Stevenson will walk around to calmly check doors and ensure that all students are accounted for during the drill. Classroom teachers are given social stories referencing a lockdown and discuss the importance of the drill with their classrooms.
The purpose of a lockdown is to ensure the safety of students and staff during an incident which could potentially result in injury. Examples of these type of incidents are:
If an unidentified person has gained access to the building or grounds.
If there is police activity near the school and we are advised to lockdown.
A visitor does not follow the proper check-in procedure at the front desk.
The announcement made to initiate the drill will clearly state that it is a drill. Please review the AGCS Standard Emergency Response Protocols Flyer with the language that is used. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, I know that our students and staff will feel confident and secure during this drill.
Thank You,
Kelly Hendrickson
ELC Principal
Kris Stevenson
ELC Assistant Principal
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. HENDRICKSON
To maintain a focused learning environment, Avon Grove Charter School has an electronic device policy outlined in our Family Handbook. While we understand that many students use these devices for bus rides, tracking their location, or communication before and after school, we must ensure classrooms are free from distractions and prioritize the safety of everyone in the building. With these devices capable of recording or transmitting information, students are expected not to take pictures or videos of others on the bus, as the bus is an extension of the school day. Taking pictures or videos of others without their consent is a violation of their personal rights.
Students are required to store all personal items, including electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, and similar gadgets, in their cubbies or backpacks during school hours. These devices should ideally be left at home, but if brought to school, they must remain stored throughout the day. Teachers will remind students to keep their devices in their backpacks to help reinforce this policy.
If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call the main office and we will relay the message.
Thank you for helping us maintain a productive learning environment!
