Red Ribbon Week-
National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by a handful of concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention. Since its founding thirty years ago, NFP has devoted its efforts to the well-being of youth. Today, NFP is a national leader in drug prevention education & advocacy. Our mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.
What We Do
AWARENESS – NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
Second Step Unit 1 Mindsets & Goals
Students learn how to develop a growth mindset and apply researched-based goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives. This unit's content helps create classrooms that are connected and encouraging by helping students set and achieve collective and personal goals, learn from challenges, recognize their personal strengths, and explore the unique aspects of their identities.
Career Day Friday-
Students get to explore different careers and listen to guest speakers from our area.
School Highlights
Security Cameras:
Students and families need to know that over the past week we have been installing new security cameras. These cameras will allow staff to keep our hallways safer by locating student who may be making poor choices. The cameras cover almost all common areas in the building and outside. We thank the District Leadership who has made safety in our school a high priority.
New Roof:
Stilwell and several other school that were impacted by the hail storm in September are getting their roofs replaced the same as many of the surrounding homes. This work will start mid- November and will impact our classrooms with noise. We need to get this done before it gets too cold. The good news the impact to our parking lot and space around the building will remain in the current construction site. We will only be impacted by trucks dropping off materials and the removal of the old roof. Please continue to be patient with all of the construction.
Stilwell Service Project: Pet Supply Drive
Thank you, students and staff, for your generous donations to the pet supply drive. We are still collecting supplies through October 28. Dog treats, dry cat food, dog collars, and all other donations can be placed in the bins in the counseling office and outside Room 2309. As part of our service project, Kona Ice will be at Stilwell on Friday, Oct. 28. Students have the option to prepay to make sure they get a snow cone next Friday. Look for QR codes and an email with more information about prepay for Kona Ice!
Stilwell Model United Nations Club
Tomorrow, October 25th, we will be having our first meeting of the Stilwell Model United Nations club after school from 2:40-3:15 in Ms Lowry's room (#2314). Anyone is welcome to attend! In Model United Nations we debate, research, speak, learn about other cultures, and have fun. If students are interested, they can fill out the GoogleForm or use the QR code on the posters located around Stilwell.
