SAFETY DRILL - Response to Violent Intruder (RVI) Student Lessons
The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires each school entity to conduct a security drill in each school building within the first 90 days of school. Teachers have received ongoing training regarding the district's safety protocol and making decisions in a crisis situation. Over the course of the last week, teachers have also talked with their students about the 3E's principles and how they apply to school safety. The 3E's stand for Escape, Enhance, and Engage. Therefore, we are sharing this information with parents/guardians so that you can expand this discussion with your children.
The 3E's principles include:
Escape: Get to a safe place
Enhance: If unable to escape, lockdown and make a safe place.
Engage: As a last resort, take action to disengage the perpetrator and escape to a safe place.
On a day this week (November 18th - November 22nd), an unannounced RVI drill will occur at Annville Elementary School. At the start of the drill, students and staff will be told that we are conducting a practice drill in order to keep all participants comfortable in the practice scenario. Staff will talk with students about what they would/could do in the particular situation and walk them through the various steps. We will have these conversations and conduct the drills with students in an age-appropriate manner. Local police have also been invited to participate in the drill to provide feedback and support. Following the completion of our drill, communication will occur with parents/guardians so that you can talk to your child(ren) about the drill.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Hoover, building principal, at 717-867-7620 or Mrs. Heisler, assistant to the superintendent/safety and security coordinator, at 717-867-7600. Thank you in advance for your support as we attempt to create the safest possible environment for our students.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
If you have any questions, please reach out to our main office or your child's teacher.
AE Item Drive
Third grade students at AE are currently learning a song called "Share Your Goodwill" for their winter program. In talking with students about the meaning of the song, one student mentioned not having to wait until the holidays to share their goodwill - they could start now by helping hurricane victims. This gave us an idea...
Over the next two weeks, AE will support a blanket, glove/mitten, winter hat, and small stuffed animal drive to support victims of Hurricane Helene. These will be packed, along with other items from AE students, and sent to families in Rutherford County, North Carolina. We hope that you will join us in showing our goodwill to this community in need!
A preview of the song that sparked this thoughtful idea can be found below.
PTO Meeting
The Annville Cleona PTO will meet in person at Annville Elementary School December 3rd at 5pm. We hope you will join us to discuss our holiday craft morning and our Spring plans!
Secondary Building Wall of Fame
We’re thrilled to share that we’ve installed two “Wall of Fame” touchscreen TVs in the Gallery Hallway at the Secondary School, showcasing our students’ achievements in athletics and extracurricular activities, both past and present. This feature will also enable us to publish this information on our website, making it accessible to a wider audience. Although the site is still a work in progress, we wanted to update the community on our efforts and invite you to contribute any additional information you’d like us to include.
