Message From Principal Dailey
Greetings Hazelbrook Families,
Welcome to March! This week is our first Connections with Principal Dailey in the library on Tuesday, March 5th from 5-6. This will be an informal meeting to discuss topics that are important to you as they relate to Hazelbrook. I’d also like to invite you to stay for the PSO meeting from 6-7.
Every quarter I will share a “Quarter in Review” summary of attendance and discipline data, beginning today with a culmination of 1st semester:
82% of students had no referrals
Top 3 Incidents: Skipping (n=82, 26.89%); Insubordination (n=61, 20.00%); and Disruption (n=31, 10.16%)
68% of our students have attendance greater than or equal to 90%, in other words, 68% of our students are not chronically absent. This is a 13% increase from last year. Thank you for your help in getting your student(s) to school! Here is why Attendance Matters:
Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. Read this research summary for more details.
Lastly, I’d like to thank all of our parent volunteers, especially those who braved a middle school dance! It was great to see you all interacting with kids (even though some of your kids did not want you there 🙂) and being a positive presence in our school. We truly appreciate the time you took out of your day for our kids!
Take good care,
Lisa Dailey

Mensaje de Principal Dailey
Saludos familias de Hazelbrook,
¡Bienvenidos a marzo!
Lisa Dailey

Summer Learning Program:
We have begun accepting applications for our annual Summer Learning Program! In this program, the learning focuses on the Oregon State Benchmarks appropriate for each child in mathematics, language arts (reading, writing, and speaking), and any other subjects in which the student needs help. Our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidates tutor/teach students according to their learning needs. There are usually 4-5 students per 2-3 MAT candidates.
This year’s program will run July 1-August 1, Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-11:30am, and we welcome students entering grades 2-11 in 2024-25. The cost of the program is $125, though scholarships are available.
Online registration is now available here. To request a printable PDF or registration packet via postal mail, please contact Amy Kwong-Kwapisz at kwongkwa@up.edu or 503-943-7752.
