Isham Insights
October 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Happy Fall Isham Families!
It has been an absolute privilege getting to know your students so far this year and celebrate the awesome learning that is happening. From conference days/nights to the Grandparents/Special Persons Lunch and book fair, we have enjoyed welcoming many of you into the building. We have many more opportunities this year to be involved at Isham Elementary, so please continue reading and note all the upcoming events.
I’m personally looking forward to our trunk-or-treat that our amazing PTO is organizing! More info about this is included below.
As we continue through this year, I want to continue to encourage you to communicate with your students’ teachers and me. We are on a team together to do what is best for your students and we look forward to collaborating with you to make it the best year ever.

Student Vacation Absences
All vacation absences need to be approved by the Principal. This must be done in advance to avoid an "unexcused" absence. Please review the protocol from the Student Handbook.
VACATION
● Students are permitted to go on vacation during the school year without penalty except the week of state mandated testing. The purpose of this administrative guideline is to accommodate parents who must take their vacations during the school year and the desire to enjoy that time as a family.
● Prior to the vacation you must send written notification to the principal in order for the absence to be reviewed and approved. The length of absence should be made clear. Student attendance will be reviewed prior to approval granted.
● The district will only approve a student’s absence for a vacation when she/he will be in the company of his/her own parent or other family relatives but not other students’ parents, unless there are extenuating circumstances deemed appropriate by the principal.
Changes in Student Transportation
Please make sure that you are contacting the office before 3 pm with any changes to your child's normal pick up routine. We appreciate this as the end of the day is a very busy time, we understand that emergencies arise and we will do our best to assist.
Thank you
Board Approved Volunteers
Please remember that in order to be a chaperone on a field trip, you must be Board approved. If you have filled out a volunteer sheet please remember to stop at the Administration Building (between 8 am and 4pm) to have your fingerprints completed.
Once your fingerprints have been completed and reviewed your name will be added to the next Board Meeting agenda.
***Board meetings are held monthly so please do not wait to get your fingerprints completed as you may have to wait until the following month for approval. ***

Clothing Changes
Please remember to send a change of clothes with your child to leave at school. With "wet" weather approaching and outdoor recess, we see many children requiring a change of clothes. Unfortunately, at this time our clinic supply of clothing is minimal. Thank you so much for your help.
Counselor's Corner
Happy fall, Isham families!
During the month of September, students learned about respect and what it means to be respectful in school, at home, and towards others. Our character trait for the month of October is responsibility. Here is one of my favorite quotes about responsibility:
"Accept responsibility for your actions. Be accountable for your results. Take ownership of your mistakes." - Unknown
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Over the past few weeks, students have been learning about a program called Start with Hello. Start With Hello is one of Sandy Hook Promise’s Know the Signs programs and teaches students to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Check out this link to learn more about the Sandy Hook Promise: https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/
Wadsworth City Schools will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week later in the month, the week of October 23rd - 31st. The Red Ribbon Campaign serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities, educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. This month, students will receive classroom lessons focused on drug use prevention and education.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please let me know. I can be contacted by email at treagan@wadsworthschools.org or by phone at (330) 335 - 1440.
