CVU Celebrations
April 5, 2024 (No Celebrations Going Out Next Week)
Dear CVU Community: If you had asked me in September, I wouldn't have guessed that we'd have a snow day (followed by a minor earthquake) and an eclipse day in April. Students, I hope you remembered to get your glasses in advisory today. Jacqui, modeling these stylish and eye-saving accessories, bundled hundreds for you! Also, Thursday was pretty quiet in the building, so Alice (Monica Carter's lab) got lots of attention...despite her forlorn look!

Student Council Corner
Hello CVU! This is Mira. This week in Student Council we were hard at work, making progress on our various projects. A group of students continued work on planning CVU’s first ever Cultural Awareness Week, reaching out to businesses, communities and people outside the school to come in and inform CVU students about culture. A group of students worked on planning for this year's presidential election and how new grade representatives and committee members will be appointed for next year. Another group worked on planning senior sunset, and lastly, a group worked on planning a teacher appreciation week. Adam Bunting sent out an email to all CVU students concerning the budget, detailing cuts that have been made to the proposed budget due to the budget defeat in March. I personally hope that seeing the cuts the administration has been forced to make shows the impact of your votes. How you vote determines the day to day life of students at CVU. Have a fabulous long weekend and enjoy the eclipse!

Faculty/Staff Celebrations
Congratulations to Coach Ute Otley for being named as head coach for the Norwich hoops team! We will miss her inspiration on the court and her outstanding instruction in the classroom. Norwich is a lucky program!
Cari Causey makes sure we are connected and healthy as a community. Thank you, Cari! (And Carol Fox, too!)
From Stephanie Dupras: Photo brag of our wonderful ESP’s gathering as we attend the Vermont NEA Education Support Professionals conference in Burlington. This is a wonderful opportunity for not only professional development but also a sense of community between our building.
Also, Gloria, Lora and I are, once again, presenting today at workshop on the benefits of a paraeducator mentor program. Our program is a benchmark for other districts to develop their own programs!

CVSD Budget Vote April 16 or Before
Polls will be open on April 16 from 7am-7pm.
Please see the Budget page of the district's website for additional information.Special Education Parent Advisory Council
Hello Parents, Caregivers, and Friends of Children with special needs,
My name is Erin Bingham. I am the mother of 2 at HCS - a second grader and a preschooler. My youngest has a rare genetic condition, Williams Syndrome. I am interested in both creating a network of individuals who care for kids with special needs that can serve as a support and working together to establish a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) that would serve the entire district. SEPACs advocate for the interests of any child with any kind of special need at school. Although there is a commitment from CVSD administration, this is the first step in a long process to gauge interest and commitment, but there is no timeline yet.
If you are interested at any level in either connecting with others who support kids with special needs, or in understanding more about what would be necessary to start a SEPAC, please email me at bingham.erin@gmail.com.
From CVU Grad Liam Holly: The University of Vermont's MLS program is designed to provide comprehensive theoretical and practical training for aspiring Medical Laboratory professionals. My interest in laboratory work first began with CVU and the microbiology curriculum taught by Sarah Strack. My goal is to provide further interest and information for students that may not already know about clinical laboratory work. This poster contains detailed information about the program, both for UVM and the nationwide organization of The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Information includes the program's objectives, curriculum, eligibility, and accessibility options for students that may be interested.
ParentIN CVSD partners with Lake Champlain Waldorf School to offer a FREE and IN-PERSON event with prevention expert, Jessica Lahey.
Everywhere we turn, our cultural and social practices have normalized and even glamorized alcohol and substance use.
In this important event, join parents, caregivers and educators for a real, fact-based conversation with youth prevention expert, Jessica Lahey. Drawing from her own personal experience and years of research in child development, education, and addiction, Jessica Lahey sheds light on the roots of substance abuse, identifying who is most at risk and offering practical advice for prevention.
Jessica will share actionable steps to communicate with youth about substances and insight into best practices for prevention of addiction. Come with your questions and challenges, and connect with other caregivers in a supportive environment of care for our teens.
Who is this event for?
Prevention is a community responsibility. This discussion will resonate with any positive youth leader - parent or caregiver, educator, coach, mentor, community leader.
Date/Time:
Wednesday, Apr 10, 2024 7:00 PM
Only 40 seats are available for this FREE event, sponsored by ParentIN CVSD.
