Ludlow Taylor Community News
June 9th, 2025
Our last full week!
So much to celebrate
What a year it has been! We are so proud of all of our students and our staff. Our students have made amazing strides this year in reading, writing, and math. Teachers are currently working on report cards. These will be available by 6/25.
Today, our 5th graders took an early lead in the Staff vs. Students Kickball game. Mr. Barnes made a bog kick and ended up falling down. Mr. G had the biggest kick of the day, and our 5th graders made amazing saves! It's wonderful when we can come together and be completely silly after our hard work.
Thank you and New Staff
At the end of the year, while we are wrapping up, we are looking forward to what next year holds. We are lucky to have several staff who are moving into new roles. New staff roles for the 25-26 school year include:
- Mr. Bain as our math interventionist
- Ms. Henry will teach writing in 5th grade, along with Mrs. Henderson, who will teacher reading, and Mr. Parker, will teach math
- Ms. Atchison in 2nd grade
- Mrs. Godfrey in 2nd grade
- Mr. Hallman is joining 1st grade
- Ms. Ward will be our special education coordinator
We are waiting on several new hires to complete their DCPS process. We will announce new staff in our summer updates. Please join me in welcoming our amazing folks to their new roles. We are looking forward to a very successful year next year!
Last Day for Students is June 18th!
Kindergarten Promotion - 6/13
Our Kindergarten team is preparing for their promotion festivities! There won't be a dry eye in the house!
To the victors go the spoils
5th grade enjoyed their win over staff with celebratory popsicles. The other students celebrated along with them. We couldn't have pulled it off without the support of our 5th grade parents.
End of Year Events
We have a host of events this week!
- 6/10 - fire drill and 3rd grade talent show (sorry, this is just for students and staff)
- 6/11 - 5th grade BBQ, Drama club NY theater trip, community meeting @6pm
- 6/12 - 5th gr promotion
- 6/13 - Kindergarten promotion, Safety Patrol field trip
Next week:
- 6/16 - 3rd grade BBQ

DCPS Cell Phone Policy
DCPS has sent out official policy for cell phone use in schools. DCPS schools will need to implement an 'Away All Day' policy for cell phones and smart watches. This will hopefully start to counteract the creeping influence of cell phones on our student's attention. Ludlow Taylor will follow this policy. Students will need to hand in phones at the beginning of the day and will retrieve them at the end of the day. Please work with your student to prepare them and discuss your expectations for following the policy.

LT Addition Updates - Community Meeting 6/11
Thank you for your continued support and engagement throughout the Ludlow-Taylor addition project. DCPS is excited to provide additional classrooms and academic support spaces for the Ludlow-Taylor community.
Due to major challenges and unforeseen site conditions, the Ludlow-Taylor addition project will now be delivered during the School Year (SY) 2025-26 Winter Break. These unforeseen site conditions, such as unsuitably soft soils that cannot support the weight of the new addition without remediation and the discovery of an unidentified gas line in the construction zone, have caused the new project delivery to be mid-Fall 2025. To best support students and limit disruptions to learning, teachers will move over Winter Break and in January 2026, students will be welcomed into their new learning spaces.
We appreciate your patience as our team works diligently to produce an addition project that will support the school’s growth over the coming years. The project team will continue with scheduled activities, sharing important construction updates and information through the remainder of the school year and throughout the summer to prepare for the new timeline in the fall. Proper site safety measures will be in place to avoid interference with summer programming on site.
This summer, the following activities will take place:
• Removal of unsuitable soil followed by suitable soil backfill.
• Removal of gas line by Washington gas
• Connection of the addition to the existing building
On June 11, 2025, DCPS will host a project related community meeting at Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School to discuss this new timeline and its anticipated impacts. More information about this meeting is coming soon. For project-related questions, please contact, E’Driana Berry, edriana.berry@k12.dc.gov, or visit the Ludlow-Taylor addition project website, https://bit.ly/LTESaddition.
