Message from Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Johnson
Welcome to the Storm Tracker!
October 1, 2024
Dear Parents, Teachers, and Community Members,
I am excited to introduce our new monthly newsletter, Storm Tracker! This newsletter will help keep everyone connected and informed about the many great things happening within our district. Starting today, Storm Tracker will be sent out on the first of each month as part of our ongoing commitment to communication, transparency, and collaboration.
Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community—whether you're a parent, teacher, or a supporter of public education—feels engaged and informed. Storm Tracker is not just a means of sharing updates; it is a reflection of our mission to foster growth, instill confidence, and empower every learner. Part of empowering our students means ensuring that their families and our community partners are connected with what is happening in our schools. By staying informed, we can all work together to provide the best opportunities for our children.
In each issue of Storm Tracker, you can expect to find highlights of district accomplishments, important upcoming events, student and staff spotlights, and ways you can be involved in helping our schools succeed. We are all in this together, and I am excited to see the continued progress and success we will achieve as a united Pamlico County Schools community.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to sharing our journey with you each month!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeremy Johnson
Superintendent, Pamlico County Schools

1:1 Device Deployment Successful!
Pamlico County Schools is thrilled to announce the successful deployment of 1:1 devices to students, made possible by the dedicated work of our Technology Department. Thanks to a staggered student deployment plan, the tech team was able to be physically present in each school building to ensure devices were distributed smoothly and efficiently.
The staggered deployment allowed for smaller groups of students to receive their devices at a time, giving the tech department the opportunity to provide hands-on support, troubleshoot any issues, and ensure that every student was set up for success. With this thoughtful approach, the team ensured a seamless process for both students and teachers, reducing potential delays or disruptions in the learning process.
Pamlico County Schools is grateful for the hard work of our Technology Department in making sure students have the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital learning environment.
PCHS Students Earn Industry-Recognized Credentials
Pamlico County Schools is proud to highlight the achievements of our students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These students are working hard to earn industry-recognized credentials, giving them a competitive edge in today’s workforce.
Students are gaining hands-on experience in fields such as health sciences, information technology, construction, and culinary arts, while earning certifications that are highly valued by employers. These credentials allow students to step into jobs directly after high school or continue their education with a strong foundation of real-world skills.
By offering these programs, Pamlico County Schools is helping students not only succeed academically, but also prepare for rewarding careers in high-demand industries.

Finance Department Introduces Efficiency and Convenience Improvements!
The Pamlico County Schools Finance Department is excited to share several new initiatives that are increasing efficiency and convenience for both staff and employees across the district.
Electronic Pay Stubs and Leave Balances: The district has successfully transitioned from paper pay stubs to an electronic system, giving employees direct access to their pay stubs and leave balances. This change not only saves on paper, envelopes, and labor costs but also provides employees with easy access to their W-2s for current and previous years, enhancing convenience and reducing paper waste.
Budget Management Training with LINQ: To support better financial management, the finance department has provided training and access to the LINQ financial software for all department directors. This system allows directors to monitor and manage their budgets more effectively, ensuring greater fiscal responsibility throughout the year.
Direct Deposit for Travel Reimbursements: In the near future, the department will introduce direct deposit for travel reimbursement payments. This will allow employees to receive their travel settle-up payments quickly and efficiently, without waiting on a paper check, further streamlining financial processes.
The Finance Department is proud to continue its efforts to modernize systems and provide better support for the staff of Pamlico County Schools.
HR Department Participates in Community Event to Support Sickle Cell Awareness
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Pamlico County Schools Human Resources Department proudly represented the district at the 2024 Fall Motorcycle Ride, an event held in memory of former Pamlico County High School student, Jamal Jones, and in support of Sickle Cell Awareness Month. The event took place at Pamlico Community College, with proceeds benefiting Piedmont and Sickle Cell services, helping to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by sickle cell disease.
During the event, the HR team handed out information about the school district and provided details on current job openings, encouraging community members to explore the opportunities available within Pamlico County Schools. This outreach effort allowed the district to connect with the community while supporting an important cause.
Pamlico County Schools is proud to have been part of this meaningful event, honoring the memory of Jamal Jones and raising awareness for sickle cell disease.

Groundbreaking Marks the Beginning of the Future of Education in Pamlico County
On September 21st, Pamlico County Schools hosted a momentous groundbreaking ceremony for the new Pamlico County High School, which will contain grades 6-12. This ceremony marked the beginning of a project that will bring modern learning spaces and enhanced resources to students for generations to come. Held at the future site of the high school, the event was attended by community members, school leaders, local officials, and students.
Key speakers at the event included Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Johnson, School Board Chair John Prescott, and County Commissioner Candy Bohmert, who all emphasized the importance of investing in the future of education for Pamlico County. In their remarks, they shared excitement about how the new high school will provide state-of-the-art classrooms, upgraded technology, and new amenities to better support student learning.
Ms. Aniyah King, the student representative from the Class of 2027 said in her speech, " Finally, the outside of the building will reflect the talent inside the building."
“We are building more than just a school,” said Dr. Jeremy Johnson. “We are building opportunities for our students to succeed in an environment designed to meet their needs for years to come.”
After the remarks, the ceremonial first shovels were turned by school board members, local leaders, and student representatives, symbolizing the official start of construction.
