Our mission at Hidden Valley Middle School is to cultivate knowledge, to promote civic responsibility, to provide opportunities for the exploration of interests and abilities, to foster positive attitudes, and to develop essential skills necessary for all students to become productive citizens capable of thriving in the dynamic world of the twenty-first century.

It has been a wonderful 2023-2024 school year here at HVMS! Thank you to all of our students, parents/guardians, and staff members who have contributed to the success of our school as a whole. We look forward to seeing the great things our eighth graders will do in the future, and we look forward to the 2024-2025 school year with our sixth and seventh graders!

Eagle Eight
The Eagle Eight Award is a tradition at Hidden Valley Middle School. CELEBRATIONS
Eagles of the Month
HVMS has begun recognizing eight students from each grade level each month to be our Eagles of the Month. Hidden Valley Middle School Eagles of the Month display outstanding behavior both inside and outside the classroom by consistently meeting HVMS SOAR expectations of being safe, organized, accountable, and respectful. Eagles of the Month demonstrate opportunity ready skills including communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship. These students exhibit a positive attitude toward their peers, school, and community, and they maintain a focus on continuous improvement.

Caught SOARing

ATHLETICS
VHSL Sports Physicals
All students interested in participating in HVMS athletic open gyms, practices, or tryouts must have a valid VHSL physical on file with the HVMS athletic director. VHSL physicals dated after May 1, 2023 are valid through June 30, 2024. Starting July 1, 2024, all athletes must have a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2024 to continue participating in HVMS athletics. Additionally, all students must have health insurance if they want to participate.
Cheerleading
Volleyball Open Gyms
Hidden Valley Middle School girls' volleyball open gyms are scheduled for May! Athletes interested in participating must have a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2023 on file with the HVMS athletic director.
Girls' Basketball
Hidden Valley Middle School girls' basketball open gyms are scheduled for May. Athletes must have a current VHSL physical on file with the HVMS athletic director to participate.
Football
Hidden Valley Middle School will host several open fields in May. Athletes interested in participating in football during the 2024 season should attend! For questions, please contact Coach Phelps at dphelps@rcps.us.
Roanoke County Parks, Recreation & Tourism Announcement
Roanoke County Parks, Recreation & Tourism is pleased to announce our Athletics Half-Day Summer Sports Camp lineup for 2024. Our summer camp offering includes many of our long-time camps such as Archery (Level 1), Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball, but also includes some new/newer camps such as All Sports Camp for Girls, Wrestling Camp, Archery Level 2 and several new Golf Camps. The All Sports Camp for Girls at Hollins University is being held for the 5th year and gives girls the opportunity to explore and learn about several different sports over a 4-day period under the direction of the university's coaching staffs. In addition to that camp at Hollins University, we’re also offering a Basketball Camp for girls and a Volleyball Camp for girls at Hollins University with instruction by their respective coaches/staff. Numerous new Golf Camps are being offered for several different ages/groups including a pre-season high school prep camp for ages 13-18 that focuses on preparing players for upcoming high school tryouts.

Youth Sports Recreation Club Announcements
Wrestling
The HVYSA is hosting a youth wrestling camp throughout June on Wednesdays and Fridays coached by HVHS Varsity Coach Steve Horn. Cost is $30 for 8 sessions and athletes MUST have a USA Wrestling Card to participate. Register at http://www.hvysa.com.

Volleyball
