“Together May we give our children (students) the roots to grow and the wings to fly”
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! We’re off to a fantastic start, and I’m thrilled to share that both our students and staff have navigated the first few weeks with great success. A special thank you to everyone who attended our Open House/Parent Information Night—it was wonderful to see such a strong turnout.
We’re excited to introduce new members to the Mason School community: Mrs. Atheena Walls, our new fifth-grade teacher, and Mr. Walter Adamczyk, our new Social Worker. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to them as they start their journey with us.
This year, we’re continuing to prioritize our focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Our school theme for DEI is “Belonging,” and our goal is to create an environment where every student feels welcome, safe, and accepted.
As we begin this month, we are also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. At Mason and throughout our district, we are committed to learning about and appreciating the differences that make us unique. Understanding and valuing these differences is crucial for success in our diverse school community and beyond.
Reading and math are very important to our students’ progress across the curriculum. Many of our students are experiencing difficulty with learning and remembering their math facts. Students may practice their math facts by using a computer program titled XTRAMATH.org, or they can use flash cards. It is the expectation that all students practice their math facts nightly and read at least thirty minutes a night.
Parents, it is important for all students to keep their Chromebooks in their book bags while riding on the bus. As a reminder, if your student brings a cell phone to school, it must remain in their book bag in their locker.
Grand Blanc’s Homecoming Parade will be Friday, September 27th at 5:00 p.m. We would like staff, students and parents to participate. Students must have a parent or guardian with them to walk in the parade. Permission slips will be sent home next week.
Remember, if you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me or visit the school. Thank you for supporting our students and staff at Mason Elementary School.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Mrs. S. James, Ed.S.
