Classroom Updates

Kindergarten

Kindergarten

We have had an amazing start to our school year! It has been so fun having the kids come in each day with a big smile on their faces. Students have been working hard learning school and classroom routines and have shown a lot of growth already.

We have started all of our curriculum which has gone really well. Students are learning letter names and sounds, red words (sight words) as well as beginning conversations about stories they have read! In math students have been focusing on sorting into different groups, finding a new way to sort, and counting objects.
Please ask your students about their day and refer to our kindergarten website to learn more about what we will be doing during the week!

1st Grade

1st Grade

Hello First Grade Families! We are continuing to get settled in with routines, procedures and curriculum. In reading we will be in our first unit of Wonders. Our new phonics skills will include double f,s,l and z, compound words, open and closed syllables as well as two letter blends. We will be working on sight words and building fluency. In math, we will be working on counting, comparison and addition. The focus in science will be all about animal and plant defenses and the characteristics that help them survive in nature. In social studies we will be learning about our community and people who can help in the community. Please be sure to spend a few minutes each nice reading with your child!

2nd Grade

Second Grade will be reading Fantasy stories as well as Expository. While reading we will be looking at key details from the text. Our phonics focus will be 2 letter blends, short a and long a_e, and short i and long i_e. In math students will be learning place value concepts through measurement and data. In science students are learning about plants and animals. Our Social Studies focus is all about culture and how culture changes. Please be reading with your child at home and practice math facts! Make sure to check the Google Site for weekly updates!

3rd Grade

Hello from third grade. We have now jumped into third grade curriculum. In math, we are focusing on multiplication and division. In reading, we are working on short and long vowels, writing a complete sentence, and sequencing. In science, we are learning about force and motion. We are learning this through how a floating train works. In social studies, we are learning about economics and personal finance. We are excited to continue to work through our third grade curriculum throughout the year.

4th Grade

It has been a fantastic first month of 4th grade! We have been getting to know one another, establishing and practicing our building expectations, and building a positive classroom culture. We did a brief review of 3rd-grade concepts to build background and get our brains ready to learn the 4th-grade curriculum! We have started our Eureka math curriculum with Module 1: Multiplication as Multiplicative Comparison and Place Value and Comparison within 1,000,000. We have also started digging into our Wonders curriculum with Unit 1: Expository Text. In September we will continue exploring ELA and math concepts through collaboration and teamwork! In Social Studies, we have been focusing on Social Emotional Learning while starting to learn about the state we all know and love with some Colorado History! Our scientists have started our brand new Amplify Curriculum, and we have started exploring energy with the task of figuring out the “Ergstown Blackout.” We are excited to continue working with this new group of fabulous fourth graders! With your help and collaboration, we are hoping to make this their best year yet!

5th Grade

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

We are thrilled to share that our first month of school has been fantastic! We’re incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm the students have shown as they settle into their routines.

As we move into September, here’s what we have planned:

Math: We will continue exploring Module 1, focusing on place value concepts crucial for multiplication and division with whole numbers. To support their learning, please help your child practice multiplication facts at home. This practice will make tackling more complex multiplication problems much easier.

Science: Our investigation into the Patterns of Earth and Sky will continue. Students will investigate why the sun is visible at different times and explore the reasons behind seeing various stars throughout the year.

Reading: We will work on several key areas, including character, setting, sequence, context clues, text evidence, the author’s point of view, and Greek and Latin prefixes. To enhance their fluency and boost their reading confidence, please ensure your child reads for at least 20 minutes each night.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement during this first month of school. Together, we can ensure a successful and enjoyable year for your child!

Clothes Needed

The health office is always in need of pants and new underwear. We have students that visit the health office for a change of clothes for many different reasons. If your child wears an article of clothing home from the office, please wash it and return it to school. Thank you!
