Deer Valley families,
November provided lots for us to be thankful for as a school family! November provided lots of validation about the value of the hard work that happens inside our classrooms each day! November provided 50,000 reasons to be thankful for an incredibly supportive school community. As we move further into the holiday season please know it is not lost on any of us how lucky we are to call Deer Valley, “home”. Thank you for whatever part you play in helping to make Deer Valley, “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”
As we shared last month, Deer Valley was recognized by US News and World Report as the #1 Elementary School in Hoover City Schools and the #13 Elementary School in Alabama! US News and World Report - Deer Valley Elementary
On the heels of that incredible news, Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) released 2023-2024 State Report Card grades. Deer Valley’s 2023-2024 state report card grade was 99.45%/A. Deer Valley earned 99.25%/A during the 2022-2023 school year. The 21-22 report card grade was 98%/A. This continual growth is a testament to the hard work of faculty, staff, students and families. Together we have created a school culture that is focused on academic excellence, character development, and social responsibility.
As we move forward, we remain committed to providing an exceptional education for every student. We are excited to see what the future holds for Deer Valley. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Thank you for sharing your best with us each day.
In partnership,
Nicole
As you may know, Mrs. Elmore and her family are preparing to welcome Grady Mack Elmore later this month! We are excited for them and pray for a smooth delivery and transition to a family of five! While Shelby is away serving in her most important role of “mom,” we are excited to welcome Ms. Kari Tibbs who will serve as Assistant Principal during Shelby’s absence.
Kari Tibbs is a veteran educator who served Hoover City Schools for twenty-four years until her retirement at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Ms. Tibbs’ career included serving as a K-12 special education specialist for 13 years and she then transitioned to assistant principal at Berry Middle School for 11 years. Inspired by her mother to enter education, Kari originally majored in history and soon found her true love, special education and her major changed! “Being a part of the diverse needs of others and how to embrace that” is something she quickly decided she wanted to be a part of.
Most recently Kari completed a maternity leave position for the assistant principal of Green Valley Elementary. We are excited to have Kari step in during Mrs. Elmore’s absence, January 7-March 12. Please help us welcome Ms. Tibbs to “The Happiest Place on Earth”!

Cell Phone Safety
As we move further into the school year, we want to address an important topic: cell phone safety. While cell phones can be a valuable tool, it's crucial to ensure their responsible and safe use.
Here are some tips to help you and your child navigate cell phone safety:
Set Clear Expectations: Establish clear rules and guidelines for cell phone use at home, such as screen time limits and designated phone-free zones.
Monitor Online Activity: Regularly check your child's online activity and apps to ensure they are using them safely and responsibly.
Educate About Cyberbullying: Talk to your child about the dangers of cyberbullying and how to respond if they encounter it.
Teach Digital Citizenship: Encourage your child to be a responsible digital citizen by using technology ethically and respectfully.
Be Aware of Apps and Social Media: Stay informed about the apps and social media platforms your child is using, and discuss any concerns with them.
By taking these steps, we can help ensure that your child has a positive and safe experience with cell phones.
