Mrs. Suzanne Dixon is happy to be the new administrative intern at Reading Elementary. She grew up in Preston, Idaho. She has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades. Suzanne has been a reading specialist and an instructional coach in both Jordan and Davis School Districts. She has lived in Centerville for 30 years and has four married children and four grandchildren. She loves teaching and working with educators and families. Mrs. Dixon is the school's primary contact for questions about 504 Plans and testing. We will share her with Woods Cross Elementary School. Welcome to Reading Mrs. Dixon!

STAR Reading Update from Mrs. Lemon
Hello! Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping the students at Reading Elementary with the STAR Tutoring reading program. We are still in need of additional volunteers. Please contact me if you're interested.
I have recently finished the State Board of Education training for STAR Tutoring. They have changed the name to DYAD reading. Personally, I like the name STAR Tutoring better, so if you don't mind, I'll continue to call it STAR Tutoring. However, I also want to implement the program's improvements and changes. They are small differences, but really good and I am excited to introduce them to you. One of the impressive statistics they shared at the training is that students who are in STAR tutoring have an average gain of 333 Lexile points in their reading scores, which is HUGE! Each of our volunteers makes the difference as we work with students individually. Thank You!
I will be running 2 different sessions for the training so we can maintain physical distancing. If one of these training times won't work for you, then let me know and I can meet with you individually. (Please choose 1 time- you don't need to attend both trainings.)

We Can"Still Be the One"
Message from Reid Newey, Superintendent of Schools
Welcome Back to School! In an oft-used term, we are living in “unprecedented times.” It has been something to reflect on — ALL that has changed over the past year. We started last school year with the theme of “Be the One.” Each and every person really absorbed that notion of making a difference in the lives of others and we were astounded to see the great impact made in the lives of students and adults in Davis School District by genuine care for others.
This school year we are amid a global pandemic, witnessing extreme social and civil unrest, including the examination of what racial and social justice should mean for all, as well as economic challenges. Never has the need for educators (and we are ALL educators in DSD) to be the rock that our students and staff can anchor to been more critical than now! Now is the time for increased kindness and understanding toward others. Now is the time for unwavering courage that others can lean on for strength. Now is the time for reaching out to others in ways that stretch our current and comfortable well-being. Now is the time to Still Be the One!
In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.” Still the One is the theme that has been selected for the 2020-21 school year. Although it is difficult to feel certain about what tomorrow will hold, we are absolutely certain that every member of the Davis District Team will Still Be the One! Have a great school year.
