Fox Ridge Vision
At Fox Ridge, each student will achieve grade level standards in literacy, math and social emotional and behavioral skills.
Principally Speaking
Although this week was short, a lot has been happening. In grades k-1 our students are continuing to participate in walk to phonics. Students across the grade level are grouped and move across the building to have a more targeted approach to phonics instruction. I have supported this over the past few weeks in both teaching a small group, pushing into classes and helping with the transitions. I could not be more proud of our staff and our students for doing such an incredible job! Our intermediate students continue to work hard especially focusing on writing and responding to reading. This is a valuable life long skill and is a focus of our upcoming IAR assessments. We will administer the ELA portion of that before spring break, and the math will be administered after spring break.
Next week our 2nd grade students will take the quantitative portion of the CogAT. The Quantitative Battery of the Cognitive Abilities Test measures a student’s quantitative reasoning abilities which can facilitate their learning and problem-solving. Information gathered from CogAT scores may be used to inform future instruction and programs to the needs and abilities of students. Student results will be sent home in February. We appreciate your support of our academic programs and your partnership in facilitating your child’s learning.
Finally tonight our PTO is sponsoring another family movie night, more information is below.

Fox Ridge Foxes are PAW-sitively Peaceful Problem Solvers!
Fox Ridge Foxes are PAW-sitively peaceful problem solvers! Our school will be celebrating peace and focusing on peaceful problem solving the week of January 27th-31st.
On Monday through Thursday of Peace Week, students will learn the steps of peaceful problem solving during classroom morning meetings.
Friday will culminate with a “Wear Blue” spirit day and crafts to spread the message of peace throughout our community. Students will be decorating coffee cup sleeves for the Daily Grind coffee shop, located in the STC library. The Daily Bean is run by students in District 303's transition to adulthood program. Additionally, students will be making Valentines for senior citizens in the community.
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences-February 27th Half Day
On Thursday, February 27th, all elementary students in D303 will have a half-day of school due to our Spring parent-teacher conferences. These conferences serve a different purpose than our Fall goal-setting conferences. Spring conferences provide teachers the opportunity to connect with families of students to discuss progress towards goals and areas for growth. The February 27 conferences have a much shorter time frame of 1:00 to 3:25. This means that teachers will only be able to meet with a few families that afternoon. Your child’s teacher will be sending a letter home next week with either a request to meet or a message stating that a conference is not necessary at this time.
Due to the 12:00 dismissal, students will not have lunch at school that day. All classrooms will take a snack break at some point in the morning.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out, michelle.woodring@d303.org.

Donations Needed for Paws
As part of our school wide behavior incentives, individual students earn Golden Paws from teachers for meeting our behavior expectations of being respectful, responsible and safe. The Paws are entered into a raffle drawing that takes place on Fridays during lunch time. Students are recognized by their peers and are able to select a small prize. If you have items you would like to donate (stickers, croc charms, pokemon cards, etc), please send them in to Mrs. Patty Griffith, our Student Support Interventionist.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES:
Please remember to send a weather appropriate change of clothes to school with your student.
Also, we need donations of gently used GIRLS Pants, shirts and underwear.
ILLNESS:
If your student is diagnosed with an illness or infection, please notify the health office. We are tracking our students' health closely to watch for any trends in the classrooms. Family Movie Night Is Tonight!
The movie (102 minutes) will start promptly at 6 p.m.; doors will open at 5:40 p.m. Students are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring blankets to sit on. Adults can bring lawn chairs, but we ask that they sit in an area that does not block the view for young audience members. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Please consider bringing a donation of shelf-stable, healthy, individually-wrapped snacks to give to Foxes who don't have any to bring to school. Those who do will receive some free candy to enjoy during the film!
Foxes Take the Stage: A Lip Sync Event
Tickets ($8) are limited and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. We anticipate selling out the auditorium and encourage families to buy their tickets as early as possible. To accommodate all Fox Ridge Foxes, each family may purchase up to eight tickets. Performers and those adults designated as the lead contact for their child’s act will have reserved seats and do not require tickets.
Please be aware that the Norris Cultural Arts Center has long rows of seats without a center aisle. There is elevator-accessible seating in the balcony and limited wheelchair-accessible seating on both the main floor and balcony. If you have a specific seating need, you may indicate so when placing your ticket order.
