Riverside Middle School | January 2024
Hello Riverside Families,
As we close out the second month of school I hope your family enjoyed the festivities surrounding Halloween. It is ‘spooky’ how fast the year has been going already. Our goal at Riverside is to create a positive learning environment for all students. I am excited to share that as of the end of October, 91% of our students here at Riverside have ZERO Office referrals! It is even higher with Over 95% of our students having 1 or less office referrals! Thank you for your support at home in reinforcing these values. Let’s keep up the great work together!
For the month of October our advisory lessons were focused on the core value of respect. Students used AVID strategies to have small group discussions on what respect looks like, sounds like and feels like. Students then completed a school wide commitment statement developed off their advisory discussions. We ended the month’s advisory with a t-shirt design contest where student’s designed graphics centered around their house mascots. Students will be voting on the best design on November 4th!
Just a reminder we are going to the Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Game on November 13th to celebrate our students who have had three or less tardies to class for the month of October. At Riverside we want to emphasize the importance of being on time for class and thank our students who have been able to meet these expectations daily!

This month we are celebrating “FREADOM - Elect to Read!” in the library. Students not only have access to a wealth of books in the library but also to eBooks and audiobooks through SORA. The link to SORA is located on the RMS Library homepage.
Speaking of online access, in order to ensure your student’s Chromebook continues to function at a high level, we kindly ask for your help with the following strategies:
Regular Updates: Ensure the Chromebook is updated to the latest software version to improve security and performance.
Charging Routine: Establish a routine to charge the Chromebook overnight so it's ready for school each day.
Care: Keep food and drinks away from the device to avoid damage.
Safe Online Practices: Monitor your student’s online activity, reinforcing the importance of using safe and appropriate websites.
Storage: Remind your student to store the Chromebook in a safe place when not in use to prevent physical damage.
Here is a quick list of troubleshooting tips as well. If your student(s) still need(s) help with their Chromebook, please have them stop by the RMS Library.
