🤝 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello GEMS Families,
I want to thank everyone for a warm welcome. I was fortunate to meet many of you at our Back to School Night and look forward to meeting more of you soon.
As we move past the first few weeks of school and students settle in I wanted to remind everyone that we are working to make certain that students are scheduled into appropriate classes. Please be aware that there are still a few shifts that may need to be made, and we are doing our best to minimize disruptions to student schedules.
September kicks off our extracurricular seasons. Boys Flag Football, Girls Volleyball, and Cross-Country all start competition. Student Leadership is hosting a dance, and after school clubs will be made available soon.
Thank you, and let’s have a great year.
Go Panthers!
Michael Bose, Principal
VP CORNER 🍎
I echo Mr. Bose's sentiments and am thrilled to be part of the GEMS community. It has been wonderful to see our students engaging in their classes and settling into the school routine.
As we continue into the school year, I encourage you to stay connected with your child's progress and reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Our goal is to support every student in their academic journey and ensure they have a successful and enriching experience.
Please see and review the Panther Way Expectations informational email that was sent out last week. It’s important that both students and parents are familiar with these guidelines as we work together to create a positive and supportive school environment.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and let's make this a fantastic year!
Go Panthers!
Mrs. Fernandez, Assistant Principal
OFFICE NEWS AND REMINDERS
As we enhance safety measures, please note IDs will be checked every time you come to pick up your student during school hours. Please have your ID ready for the office staff. This includes anyone listed as an emergency contact. Be sure you have logged into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and submitted the ARU modules for accuracy.
REMINDER: We can not allow food delivery services (Doordash, Postmates, UberEats, etc.) to GEMS. Breakfast and Lunch are available to all students without charge.
CAUTION about PHISHING EMAILS
On Friday evening, there was an incident where phishing emails were sent to some GEMS students at their @wpusd.org email address. The email advertised a job and when students clicked on the link in the email, they were asked to submit personal identifying information to apply.
Our Tech Team got to work on Saturday morning to mitigate any risk that may result from this phishing scam. Unfortunately, these types of scams happen all too often. Going forward, two important things your Panther can do to protect their personal information:
1. if it sounds too good to be true ($300 for 3 hours of work), it likely is NOT legit
2. WPUSD will NEVER ask you for personal or financial information. Anytime you are asked to give your address, financial information, or social security number, or they say there is a problem with a payment or your account, please pause and ask questions first. You can call/stop by the office or submit a helpdesk ticket (helpdesk@wpusd.org) for support.
3. If you are not certain of the sender, do not open the email or attachments until verifying the sender.
Here is some additional information from the Federal Trade Commission about how to identify and avoid phishing emails.
Another way students can protect their online identity is to change the passwords on their Chromebook/WPUSD account. Students can watch this brief video, produced by our Tech Department, for guidance on how to do so.
We appreciate your help in keeping your personal information safe, and in protecting our district's technology infrastructure.
