Lark Community,
What an incredible first month of school we’ve had! As we settle into the school year, I am filled with pride and excitement for the journey ahead. Our students have been busy engaging in meaningful learning experiences, and I’m eager to share some highlights with you.
School-Wide Traits- PRIDE at PHE
Throughout the month, our students have been learning about and practicing essential school-wide traits that support success across all environments. These traits are foundational to building a positive and productive school culture, and our students are already demonstrating them in their daily interactions. These traits include: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dreams to Achieve (goal setting) and Empathy. We look forward to recognizing students throughout the year through our Lark Bucks, Lark PRIDE Recognitions, Positive Office Referrals and daily feedback.
Getting to Know Our Learners
This month, we continue the opportunity to get to know each of our learners through 1-1 reading assessments, which help us understand where each student is in their reading journey so that we can tailor our instruction to meet their needs. Our students have also been engaged in interim assessments, specifically the NWEA MAP Growth assessments in reading and mathematics. These assessments provide us with valuable data that will guide our instructional planning and ensure that each student is on a path to success. We are excited to use this information to plan for your child's growth and to partner with you to share this important information during our upcoming conferences in early October.
Building Classroom Communities
In addition to setting up our classrooms for academic learning, we’ve placed a strong emphasis on building classroom communities. We strive to know each of our students by name, strength and needs and to ensure our students feel cared for and connected. We hope you are hearing lots of stories about our amazing classroom teachers and new classroom friendships!
ST Math Kick-Off
We kicked off our ST Math program with enthusiasm (a big thanks to a visit from Jiji!). Students are already making great strides- This program is a fantastic way to develop mathematical thinking through visual problem-solving, and it’s been wonderful to see our students dive into these challenges with curiosity and determination. ST Math is a great at-home learning connection that students can access anytime- try one yourselves, it's pretty amazing.
We want to extend a huge thank you to our families for your partnership in preparing students for learning each day as everyone adjusts to back to school. From establishing consistent routines to ensuring that Chromebooks are charged and ready, to making plans for drop-off and pick-up and learning at home your efforts are truly appreciated. We look forward to connecting with each of you at this week’s PTO-sponsored Back to School Bash, "Once Upon a Mind." to celebrate the new year! Have a terrific week.
Warm regards,
Stephanie Auday

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- We are so happy to see so many students and families enjoying walking and biking to school. Please take this time to practice bicycle safety! Our sidewalks are narrow throughout the neighborhood and we want both cyclists and pedestrians to have want an enjoyable and safe experience to and from school. Don't forget those helmets and bike locks!
- PETS of any kind are not allowed on school grounds. If you would like to walk your pet, please have your child meet you at the school ground boundary.
- For student SAFETY, using the Hug and Go Lane instead of meeting your child on the city street is a much safer choice with slower speeds within the lots. We have timed it- and you should move through the lane in under 10 minutes-a quick and easy way for a safe drop-off and pick-up.
