Staffing Updates
We have a few staff updates this year that we are very excited about!
We have welcomed Mrs. Michelle Cote as our new kindergarten teacher! She has a background in teaching reading foundational skills and intervention. Mrs. Cote is really excited about joining our small school and getting to know our Kindergarteners.
We also are welcoming a new classroom and afterschool program aide. Kate Johnson will be joining us as a classroom aide and will also be working in the afterschool program. Last year, Kate worked as a substitute classified aide and we are so glad to have her be a part of our full time staff this year!
In addition, we have hired a new preschool aide. Ms. Ilse will be joining us in preschool. She is so excited about helping our littlest Wildcats learn and grow. We can't wait to see her working with our littlest Wildcats!
Back to School Forms 24/25- Due Today!
Last week, Stacey sent all parents an email through Alma with directions to log in to their Alma Parent Portal to complete required back to school forms as well as links to a few other forms that are also required to be completed before school resumes. We are asking all Wildcat families to complete these forms by today (August 9th) so that we have ample time to prepare classrooms and submit necessary orders! All Wildcats who have their forms completed by August 9th will be awarded House Points!! If you have any issues accessing and/or completing these forms, please contact Stacey at staceys@sutter.k12.ca.us .

Back to School Night
Back to School Night for all grades, including preschool, will take place on Tuesday, August 20th between 5:45pm-6:40pm. There will be three sessions offered during this time so parents can attend sessions for multiple students. These will be brief sessions in the classrooms where the teachers will introduce themselves and provide an overview of the upcoming school year. The District will also be providing a pizza dinner between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. We hope to see you there!
Labor Day Parade
The Annual Nicolaus Labor Day Parade is coming up soon! This is a wonderful community event and a generous fundraiser for all of the local schools. It will be held on Monday, September 2nd. The theme this year is "Happy Harvest". The parade will begin at 10:00am and there will be great vendors there throughout the day. Our Parents' Club will be running a booth to raise money for school. Look for sign ups for donations and volunteers to be sent out soon. Below you can find flyers for the parade including nomination forms for Grandparents of the Year and Parade Grand Marshal!
TK/Kindergarten LDP Float
Each year, Marcum Parents' Club sponsors the Marcum TK/Kindergarten Labor Day Parade Float and we invite all of our Kindergarten and TK Wildcats to ride on the float during the parade. Marcum is the reigning LDP School Float Champion and we are hoping to continue that this year! If you are interested in helping prepare the float, please let me know so I can pass this information along and we can get started ensuring that Marcum again has the blue ribbon winning LDP Float! First Day of School
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 21st. School starts promptly at 8:30am. Students may not be on campus until 8:10am, unless they are enrolled in the Morning Care program. All students who are not riding the school bus will be dropped off at the front of the school and will enter the campus through the front entrance.
(No) Supply Lists
No supply lists for our Wildcats! The district provides teacher selected supplies for all students, pk-8th grade! All your child needs to bring to school is a backpack!
(If your child needs a backpack, reach out to Mrs. Irby, as we have several backpacks that have been donated that we would love to get to a Wildcat who needs one!)
Breakfast and Lunch
All of our Wildcats are again eligible for free breakfast and free lunch at school this year. Breakfast is served between 8:10-8:25, please be sure to drop them off as close to 8:10 as possible so they will have ample time to eat their breakfast before school starts. Students will get and eat their breakfast in the multi-use room. The August Menus are attached below.
ROAR Behaviors and Paw Pride Tickets
Marcum is a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) School. Our PBIS System is based on our ROAR Behavior Matrix which can be found in our school handbook or on our website. Students show ROAR behaviors when they are being Responsible, Organized, Accepting of Self and Others, and Respectful. Part of our PBIS system is to recognize students exhibiting these positive behaviors at school with a Paw Pride Ticket. The Paw Pride Ticket has two parts. One part goes into a box in the classroom school for a weekly drawing to receive a prize, the other part goes home so the student can celebrate their ROAR behaviors at home too! If the student’s ticket is drawn in the classroom on Friday, they’ll get to meet with Mrs. Brazil to tell her how they earned a ticket and to choose a special prize!
Houses
We will be continuing with our House system this year. We have loved incorporating the Houses in our school culture over the past few years. Our House system encourages student leadership, teamwork, overall positive behavior, and, of course, friendly competition. It also helps build community across grade levels and instills a sense of belonging for the students at our school. Last year, Gato Montes (Silver House) were our House Champions, but all the House scores have been reset to zero to start the year. Students and staff will remain in their same House for the duration of their time at Marcum. New students will be placed in their House by the end of the first week of school. We can’t wait to find out who the new members of Gattopardo (Blue House), Wilde Katze (Gold House), Chat Sauvage (Black House), and Gato Montes (Silver House) are! Over the course of the school year, students and staff will continue to earn points for their houses in a variety of ways including attendance, academic excellence and improvement, participation in school activities, and through House Challenges. New House shirts will be arriving soon! Each week we’ll hang the flag of the leading House on the flagpole at the front of the school. At Marcum, we’re four Houses, one school… and we ROAR with pride!
Marcum Parents' Club
Marcum Parents' Club does so much to support our students, staff, and school. Please
consider joining the club and attending their monthly meetings! Their next meeting will
take place on campus on August 26th at 6:00pm. Hopefully you can join them as
they’ll be working on the Labor Day Parade and many other exciting projects for the
upcoming school year.

Marcum Parents' Club Spirit Wear Store
Marcum Parents' Club has opened up an online spirit wear store that will be available for families to order spirit wear all year long! There are a bunch of different styles and designs you can choose from to show off your Marcum spirit! Don't worry, we'll still have our traditional Marcum Logo shirts for all students, but this provides a few more really fun options that will show school spirit! Be sure to check the online store out. They also have a different special promotion weekly, so check often!

We will continue to have staggered dismissal times for our students this year. Students will be dismissed to the front of the school, the Bus, or the Den at the following times:
