Title 1 Happenings
HAPPY 2024 Sunset Families !!
Here in Reading Room #19 ~ we are celebrating the end of mid-year Benchmark Assessments which means we have the data and info to move forward in January with new reading groups and a targeted focus to help every reader improve. All students will be supported in small group reading - so look for your child's test results and a family letter letting you know their level of intervention or enrichment. We love watching our readers grow and make connections to literacy!
Save the Date!!
Be looking for information about the upcoming Sunset Winter Carnival to be held in our gym during the evenings of Parent/Teacher conferences on Tuesday, February 13th, and Thursday, February 15th!! Kids can come have fun and win books and games throughout the evening while you attend your child's conference(s).
Make the best of these long dark nights in January!
Make some hot chocolate and pull out a book or two to snuggle up with! Don't have a book to read??? NO PROBLEM!! Come by the front of Sunset School and check out the new FREE Book Box and take a couple of books home with you.
Help us take care of THE BOX and keep it neat- leave a book you've completed if you like, take a new one; it's always open and always FREE !! Read On !!

A note from Brooke Sieg, PCSD 6 Preschool Liaison:
It's hard to believe that it's officially winter and January is now upon us! I hope you take a few moments to read over the January Community Newsletter, which is full of great information for families, including FREE events in Cody throughout the month.
From Our School Nurse
February is National Dental Health Month. Drs. Jeremy and Jaime Hill from Hill Dentistry volunteered to visit our school February 12 to perform dental screenings for all grades. This is a free, voluntary service; they will take a quick look in your student's mouth - no treatments will be performed. A card will be sent home with the screening results. If you prefer your student does not participate in this screening, or if you have any questions please call me.

Thank You
Thank you to our students and families who donated towards Sunset student council's candy cane sales in support of Toys for Tots. Sunset School raised $740.59 .
Thank you also to our families who supported our Non-Food Drive for Cody Cupboard. Your efforts to support our Cody community are amazing! Students brought in 1,072 which amounted to 420 pounds of non-food items!

School Counselor
The Pillars of Character we are learning about are Caring and Sharing
I would like to share a quote with you from the Character Counts Planner that resonates with me. "It's not what you have. It's not how you look. It's not who or what you know that matters most. What decides the path of your life, and the quality of our communities, is what kind of person you are. It's your character that counts!"
Please always know that I am here to help in anyway that I can!

Sunset Free Library
The Sunset Free Library is up and operating! Special thanks to Chris Sieg for building the free library, Issac Augedahl for spraying it with weather proofing, and our in-house artist Deb Blanchard for the beautiful artwork on the library. Stop by and "take a book" or "leave a book"!
Doctor's notes for absences
Parents, just a reminder about absences due to illness or doctor/dentist visits. If your student is sick and they see a doctor, please get a note from their doctor regarding their illness. This will excuse their absence from school. The same is true for a doctor or dentist appointment, a note from the doctor/dentist will excuse their absence.
Dress warmly, it's cold out there!
Please label your student's coat, hat, mittens, lunch box etc. with their name. This makes it easier to return misplaced items to the proper owner! Thank you.
