SD Met Family Updates
One student at a time
February 2, 2025
Spotlight!
Museum of Us - Leaving to Learn
On Wed, Jan 22, our junior and freshman classes visited the Museum of Us in Balboa Park. Each class is fullfilling the ethnic studies requirement for SDUSD in their Humanities classes. As such, they delved into several exhibits: "Hostile Terrain/94" that explores the realities of the U.S.- Mexican Border; "Kumeyaay: Native Californians Lipai-Tipai"; and "Race: Are We So Different?"
MetUp coming February 21 (moved from Feb 7)
Service Learning Day is a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in meaningful community service, develop valuable skills, and connect with local businesses and nonprofits. This day allows students to build community among peers while contributing directly to our community. We will be partnering with multiple organizations and students will sign up for one of the activities in February! Stay tuned for more information!
Attendance Reminder
School Early Out Expectations
If you need to leave campus prior to 3:15pm M/W/F or 11:30am Tu/Thu for an appointment, etc., the office must receive a call from your parent/guardian no later than 10am that day. Please have your family reach out directly to Ms. Carolyn via phone call (619-388-2299) or email (cdumas@sandi.net).
A notice will be sent to your teacher to release you at the designated time to sign-out at the office before leaving campus.
Failure to complete this process will result in an unexcused absence.
Mesa College News
Mesa College Classes
Mesa College Spring Term begins Mon, Feb. 3
To Do's
• Check your mySDCCD student portal to confirm the classes you are enrolled in and START DATES.
• Waitlisted and/or Crashing? (See directions below)
• Account set up and Canvas access (More info below)
• Books and Materials (Directions below)
Waitlisted?
• Make sure you are checking your MESA email account for notifications that Mesa wants to add you to a class from a waitlist.
• The notification will state that they are trying to add you automatically, but due to certain reasons they are unable to. Once you see that, forward the notification to me and I will notify Mesa Admissions.
• Professors cannot automatically add students off of a waitlist because we are a High School Special Program and we need to have Admissions add you.
• You can also email the professor and inform them that you want to be added to the class, but you have to do it through your high school and Mesa Admissions.
Get added to a Waitlist this week or CRASH a course during the first week-
• Look on the Mesa Class Schedule for open classes that you are interested in taking.
• You can also look at classes that have an open waitlist.
• Make sure you meet the prerequisites for the class and that it fits you schedule (No overlap with Met classes or conflicts with Internship).
• Then you can complete the JIRA (Supplemental Application) right away. I will approve it and send it to Mesa Admission and they will add you to the waitlist.
• This will give you a better chance of getting the class than waiting till the semester begins to crash the class.
• To CRASH an ONLINE class you will email the professor and ask for an ADD CODE/PERMISSION NUMBER.
• To CRASH an IN-PERSON class you need to attend the class on the first day and at the beginning of class notify the professor you want to add the class. They will take your name and Mesa ID number.
Account Setup and Access
• If you are taking an ONLINE or PARTIALLY ONLINE class make sure you can access SD Mesa's Canvas platform.
• On the SD Mesa website, click on the CANVAS link at the top of the page and log in.
• If you are unable to log in you may need to set up your MESA EMAIL ACCOUNT.
• If so, check in your mySDCCD student portal for an email in the MESSAGE CENTER link with Subject: EMAIL.
• This will have directions to set up the Mesa email account with a Multifactor Authentication.
• If you have challenges with this process you can either submit a help ticket or go to blank or go to outreach
Books and Materials
• This week before classes start is the best time to get your books and materials for your classes.
• You each have an account set up at Mesa Bookstore (Commons Bldg) under your MESA ID#.
• First go to the line where bookstore attendants are retrieving books and materials from the book stacks.
• When you get your books/materials go to the cashier line.
• When you reach the cashier you need to notify them that you are a San Diego Met High School student and you have an account set up under your MESA ID#
• If you have any trouble you can always ask for the Mesa Bookstore Manager, Rob Meyers. He will help the cashier.
• If all of your books are online texts, you can order them online through the bookstore and get the access codes.
Students should not worry about holds on their Mesa account. You will see holds for being a high school student. You will see holds for unpaid fees. You can ignore these. It will not impact your current enrollment or prevent you from registering for classes in future semesters.
Please see Mr. Moravec or your advisor for more support.

Treasurer - receives, deposits, and pays out all funds, presents a report at meetings, files taxes and other government required forms such as the charity registration.
Auditor - completes an audit of the records at the end of the school year and presents the audit at the July meeting.
Updated Academic Calendar
The Academic Calendar (linked here) has been updated slightly to reflect the expanded Spring Exhibition schedule, which will be similar to the one from the Fall (i.e., Exhibitions during the last two weeks of the semester). There is also a small change to the date of the May School Picnic MetUp, which will be on May 23.
Class of 2025
Financial Aid and Scholarships!
It’s time for our senior students and families to apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships for the 2025-2026 school year! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA) are now open.
Our Senior Advisors and Mr. Moravec have already assisted students with setting up their FSA ID for the FAFSA application. Parents/Guardians will also need to create their own FSA ID in order to help complete the application for their student. For more information and support, please visit this site and use this application link to access the FAFSA application.
No matter what pathway your student is pursuing, there is financial aid available to help. We strongly encourage all families to apply for financial aid, regardless of income. Completing the FAFSA or CADAA is a requirement for many higher education institutions, especially if your student is seeking merit-based scholarships. Additionally, submitting the FAFSA or CADAA is necessary to be considered for the California Promise Grant at California Community Colleges.
Deadlines for FAFSA or CADAA:
- For 4-Year Universities: The state priority deadline is March 3, 2025.
- For Community Colleges: The deadline is September 2, 2025.
Scholarship Opportunities: Mr. Moravec regularly posts scholarship search links and information for seniors in the Class of 2025 College and Postsecondary Info Google Classroom (Class Code: b44kgvq). Check the top post for the latest links. Don’t miss out on these important opportunities to support your student’s future!
