Dear Coyote Families,

It was another GREAT WEEK at Canyon View Elementary School! Here are a few highlights: On Thursday, third grade delighted parents with a fabulous choir performance. On Friday, we started the day with a school-wide Character Assembly. Westview Ambassadors performed a skit about fairness and invited students to share out how they show fairness. Third Grade delighted us with another choir performance and Mrs. Walsh kicked off some Attendance Incentives including Music at Lunch and Cookies and Karaoke Parties!

This is going to be a very special week at Canyon View! Mrs. Walsh will be holding Student Council Elections and Ms. Maddy is leading the Great Kindness Challenge! Check out the Spirit Week dress-up themes and the Sock Drive! Also, this Saturday is STEAM Festival! This is one of Canyon View's biggest events of the year. Bring the whole family, you won't want to miss out!

It is hard to believe it but our district has already begun planning for the 2024-2025 school year! In an effort to help us provide the most accurate information about the number of students who will be returning next year, please read carefully the information below:

• Continuing Student Survey is due no later than January 28, 2024. This will provide us with the number of returning students as well as those who will be leaving Canyon View Elementary and will ensure that your child(ren) is enrolled correctly in the 2024-2025 school year. Please submit one form per student. Families do not need to complete the form for current 5th-grade students because they will be automatically enrolled in 6th-grade at their school of residence. This is NOT continuing student registration. Continuing student registration will take place March 1st-31st and is for ALL students enrolled in PUSD for the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:

• Transfer Requests - beginning on February 1st at 8 am, we will accept transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school. This includes incoming siblings of current students, as well as students who have not yet enrolled. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified website by clicking THIS link. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5 pm.

• Continuing Student Registration - from March 1st - March 31st, all parents whose current students will continue in Poway Unified for the ‘24-’25 school year need to complete online continuing registration. Look for more information coming soon.

• New Student Enrollment - beginning on April 1st at 8:00 am, new student enrollment opens on the Poway Unified website. We are excited to welcome our new students!

We are looking for enthusiastic, caring and dedicated individuals to join our amazing team of instructional assistants. We have IA II and Behavior Intervention Instructional Assistant Positions open at this time. You can learn more about these positions by clicking on the application link below. You will find a short video explaining the position as well as the job description. Our IA positions are generally 30 hours/week with benefits, with hours that align closely to the school day.

Parent Ambassadors are mentors who support and enlighten fellow parents of students with IEPs and those seeking direction as they consider special education. They bring experience and perspective as parents of children with disabilities who have been there to encourage collaboration between parents, students and district personnel. Our 5th Grade Committee is hosting a Dine Out Fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A in Carmel Mtn Ranch. Proceeds will help the 5th Grade Committee partially fund several of the 5th grade year end activities, including the 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Join us on the 31st from 5 pm to 8 pm! Valid only at the Carmel Mtn Ranch location from 5 pm to 8 pm. Participation is voluntary and not required.

Did you know we have a garden at Canyon View? We grow everything from flowers to vegetables and herbs, and even little bananas! All of our Coyote learners have an opportunity to participate in cultivating our garden and learning about all the different techniques to grow a thriving plant from a seed.

Our garden is 100% volunteer run and our garden is looking for a few parent volunteers per classroom to assist during these lessons. You don't need a green thumb to help out! If you're interested in helping, please contact Johanna at johannagh@gmail.com. Volunteers working with children need to be Level 1 cleared through the office. We can help guide you through the process!

Coyote parents (members or not) are invited to attend our monthly Team CV meetings, especially if you are interested in learning what the PTO & Foundation do, how money that is raised is spent, or are interested in training or shadowing for a position on the board/s next year. Many of our current board members are graduating out with their 5th graders this year and having people who are comfortable taking over key roles is important to ensuring we maintain a strong partnership for our younger kids. Though formal childcare is not available, children are invited to attend meetings and sit in the room with parents. Meetings occur every first Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the Innovation Station or via Zoom. For Zoom info, please DM us to be added to the distribution list.
