Our Lady of the Cape Primary School
Newsletter - 29th August 2024
Dear Lord,
We thank you for the gift of our Fathers
and all fathering figures in our lives.
Thank you for their strength, guidance,
wisdom and love.
Thank you for the fathers here with us
and those who are no longer with us,
those who have recently left us
and those whose memory remains in our hearts.
Please watch over and protect our fathers
so they can continue to be an example to us all
of God’s love in action.
We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
Dear Parents and Community Members,
Year 6 Confirmation
Congratulations to Y6 student Aurelia Partridge, who received the Sacrament of First Eucharist (Communion) last weekend at the church. We thank our parish catechist, Ruth Morley for preparing Aurelia for the Sacrament and we look forward to Aurelia joining her peers in making the Sacrament of Confirmation in the coming Weeks.
Please keep the Year 6 Confirmation Candidates in your prayers as they finish their preparations for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 8 September at 8.30am in the Church.
Book Week – Reading is Magic
Last Friday we celebrated Children’s Book Council of Australia ‘Book Week’. Students had the opportunity to dress as a book character to showcase a range of books, old and new for a parade during our morning Assembly. We are constantly amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of our parents and students in the representation of characters. See photos below.
P&F Update
The Father’s Day Raffle will be drawn at Assembly TOMORROW afternoon. Special thanks to our P&F for organising the raffle. Good luck! There are some great prizes.
School Advisory Council
The next Advisory Council Meeting is on Wednesday 6th November at 5.00pm.
Year 5 Culture Nature Challenge Days
Our Year 5 students enjoyed two wonderful days of fun and learning outside the classroom recently, learning about our unique environment, our history and culture, and engaging in challenging team activities.
Day 2 included an incredible walk along part of the Cape to Cape track, listening to our guide sharing stories and observations, and giving lots of opportunities for students to ask questions. A visit to Calgardup Cave, as well as Ellensbrook helped to broaden knowledge about local history.
Sports Carnival
Our Sports Carnival will be held on Thursday 12 September.
Learning Journey
Please note that our classrooms will be open for parents to view their child’s work on Thursday 19 September at 2.00pm. Parents can visit classroom until 3.45pm.
Parking
Dear Parents,
To help our buses have clear access please do not park in the entry and exit verges. It makes it very tricky for the buses to get in and out when vehicles are parked there. Thank you for your support.
Uniform Shop Volunteer
We are still looking for a volunteer to help run the Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop is open on a Wednesday from 8.20am - 9am. Please see the Admin Office if you would like to volunteer. We are very thankful to Anna Rowe for her dedicated service in our uniform shop.
Have a wonderful week.
God Bless
Angela Hegney

One Big Voice
Congratulations to all members of the OLC choir who came along to Perth last Thursday to sing in unison with thousands of other Western Australian students at the RAC Arena. We are so very proud of the commitment from our choir students, attending weekly rehearsals as well as practising the repertoire and choreography in their own time to take part in such an uplifting and inspiring show. One Big Voice is WA's biggest primary school choir and it was a privilege to take part with Cornerstone Christian College, as well as so many other children and teachers sharing their passion for singing in a showstopping performance!
Thank you so much to the parents of our choir who supported the children to take part in this memorable event. Many of you were able to make the trip to Perth for the day, alongside other family members and the children were delighted spotting familiar faces in the large crowd. The date for the 2025 show is now set for Friday 29th August. Save it in your diaries!

Operation Christmas Child
The 'Operation Christmas Child' shoe box initiative has been a wonderful OLC tradition for many years as it reflects our school value of Compassion so well.
We will be following the same format from previous years where children get into groups of 4 or 5 and each bring something to contribute to a shoe box. This comes under the headings of:
- Something to love
- Something to play with
- Something to draw with or write on
- Something for personal hygiene
- Something to wear
News from the P&F
The Father’s Day raffle is being drawn this coming Friday 30th August at the school assembly!
Thank you to all the generous businesses that have contributed to the amazing prizes and to everyone who has purchased tickets. Good luck!
Please keep an eye out for our upcoming wine fundraiser. This is launching very soon!
