Thanksgiving Break Details
As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to ensure everyone is well-prepared for the holiday schedule. To allow our students, staff, and families to enjoy the holiday, our school will have a modified schedule. Classes will be held as usual on Monday and Tuesday. There will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, giving everyone a long weekend to celebrate and recharge. We hope this time allows you to connect with loved ones and enjoy the season. Safe travels, and we look forward to welcoming students back the following Monday, ready to wrap up the semester strong!
Character Dare
This month, we’re introducing an exciting "Character Dare" for our middle school students! This challenge encourages students to actively practice positive character traits such as kindness, respect, and responsibility in their daily lives. This week’s Character Dare is called the Break Bread Challenge. Students are challenged to meet 2 people they don’t know in the cafeteria this week. It could be a staff member, or student. Learn the name and use it the next day. Please talk to your students about the challenge, and encourage them to participate! Maybe try it at work, and share your experiences as well!
Station’s Vision and School Goals
This year, our middle school is focusing on two key improvement goals to enhance student learning and overall school experience. First, we are working with students to increase Student Agency. In short, that means, we want to help our students become the primary drivers of their own learning journey. Also, we seek to improve Collective Teacher Efficacy. This is the ability of our staff to work together and affect positive change as a team. We look forward to partnering with you as we work toward these goals for the benefit of all our students.

Counselors Connection
November Newsletter 2024
The counselors continue to visit classrooms once a month to connect with students and discuss relevant SEL topics. The 6th and 7th grade November/December SEL lesson focuses on the importance of community and belonging and what students can do to positively contribute to our school community through their actions and words.
The 8th graders have been busy learning more about the high school and making their high school course selections. In the winter, they will also be using a career platform called Schoolinks to explore future career paths.
We always encourage you to check in with your child. Please remember it’s not 1 sixty-minute conversation. It’s 60 one-minute conversations.
Food Service Feedback!
We are committed to providing a nutritious and enjoyable food service experience for all our students, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us achieve this goal, along with our partners from Quest. We kindly ask you to complete a brief survey to share your thoughts on our current food offerings and any suggestions for improvement. Your input will help us better meet the needs and preferences of our school community. Thank you for your time and support in making our food service the best it can be! This survey is for parents and students.

Doctor’s Note Required for Medical Absences
Due to a change in school code by the Illinois State Board of Education, this school year a medical note is required for parents/guardians who select the: “MEDUE: Medical/Dental Appointment” excuse option for their student in Infinite Campus or call their student out of school for a medical/dental appointment.
The revised school code defines "valid cause" for absence as the following: Illness, including the mental or behavioral health of the student; attendance at a verified medical or therapeutic appointment; appointment with a victim services provider. Please note that the student’s absence will be marked unexcused in Infinite Campus until a medical note is provided.
We understand this is a change in practice from previous years. Please know that our front office is here to help answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Sign Out Procedures
If you plan to pick up your child up early from school, we ask that you please put in an Absence Request in the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come to the front door with your cell phone. Ms. Jarva or Ms. Alters will buzz you in and you will scan a QR code (located on table near front door) that is linked to a sign-out form that you complete while you wait for your child to come down from class. Please note, only individuals listed on Infinite Campus (IC) will be allowed to pick up your child. If you need assistance with the parent portal, please contact the Infinite Campus Hotline at (847)-842 3580.
Thank you!
Visitor Procedures
In our district’s continued effort to keep our students and staff safe, remember to bring your driver’s license or state ID when you come to visit/volunteer at Station. The reason for this is we run your ID through our sex offender background check system. After your ID is scanned, you will be issued a visitor lanyard and visitor sticker before being admitted into the building. Every D220 school follows these procedures. For the safety of our students, there are no exceptions.
