MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Students & Parents,
We hope you had a great weekend and had an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful fall weather!
While our students and staff will be hard at work in Quarter 2, we are excited about several opportunities for fun and celebration at GLOW over the next two weeks. This Friday kicks things off with our annual Fall Festival at GLOW, followed by Spirit Week beginning on Monday, October 28 and then our PBIS Fall-a-Palooza on November 1st for students who have not received an office referral between October 7 and October 31st.
We have so much to look forward to as we enjoy the fall season! Details on all of the info listed above can be found in this week's newsletter. Be sure to check it out!

Fall Festival
The most anticipated event of the season is BACK!
Mark your calendars for October 25th—our beloved Fall Festival is returning, and it’s going to be better than ever! Join us for a day filled with delicious snacks, thrilling games, creative crafts, and the ultimate highlight: a giant slide that you won't want to miss! Whether you’re competing for musical chairs champion, crafting unique masterpieces, or just munching on tasty treats, there’s something for everyone! Stay tuned for more details, and get ready for a fantastic time!

PLAN AHEAD FOR SPIRIT WEEK!
Spirit Week at GLOW is just around the corner! See the designated Spirit Week days below, selected by our Middle School and High School SGA, for the week of October 28 - November 1st!
Monday - Dress to Impress or Spoof a member of our GLOW Staff by dressing like him/her!
Tuesday - Country vs Country Club - Channel your inner cowboy or preppy member of the country club!
Wednesday - PINK OUT - Whether in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month or honoring Mean Girls, "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink," brighten our halls and classrooms in your pink attire!
Thursday - It's Halloween, so let's come in costume dressed as a Fictional Character
Friday - Pajama Day - Wear your comfies!
Reminders: Dress modestly and remember that face masks are NOT allowed!
COLLEGE REPS VISITING GLOW
10th-12th Grade students can register to attend visits with representatives from a variety of colleges when they visit GLOW Academy. Students should log into their SCOIR account to view the calendar and register to attend. Sessions are typically hosted in Saklad Hall during lunch and advisory. If a meeting is during their lunch, they should grab their lunch and bring it to Saklad Hall. Email Ms. Lexi with any questions!

College Fair at CFCC McKeithan Center
Join the College Access team for the NHCS annual college fair at CFCC McKeithan Center - North Campus on Thursday, October 24th. You and your family are welcome to drop in to meet admissions professionals anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. Flyer
FIRST GLOWRAISER OF THE YEAR!
Our PTO is kicking off its first GLOWRaiser of the year with a Spirit Week at Vicious Biscuit. From Monday, October 21st through Sunday, October 27th, a portion of every purchase will come back to GLOW Academy. This includes DoorDash, Caterings, Take Out & Eat In - just be sure to say/include GLOW ACADEMY when purchasing.

Rotary Youth Leadership Conference (RYLA)
Juniors: APPLY NOW to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference (RYLA) at UNCW on Saturday, December 7th. RYLA is an intensive leadership experience where students connect with leaders from the community and other like-minded New Hanover County teens to be inspired and unlock your leadership potential.
This is a selective process, participants will be chosen according to the following criteria: Academic performance, self-awareness, and social engagement.
See Ms. Andersen in Lowe 628 for an application which is due back to her by November 5th.
High School Essay Contests
Any 9th - 12th grade GLOW student is eligible to enter two local essay competitions with cash prizes!
1. Racial Justice Essay Contest: This contest requires students to write about an issue that impacts African Americans or people of color. Entries are due 12/15/24 and at least $5000 will be awarded among the winners.
2. We the People Essay Contest: This contest requires students to write about what they view as the privileges and responsibilities of being an American citizen.
Entries are due 11/22/24 and $200 will be awarded to the winner. Both competitions have specific requirements, so students should see Majeski-Turner or Kramer for full details if they are interested in entering one or both of the contests. Best of luck!

PREACT
Parents of 10th grade students: The PreACT is coming up in November!
All 10th grade students will take the PreACT on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. This is a change in date from previous communications. Please reach out to Mr. Sorrells (jsorrells@glowacademy.net) with any questions.
HERFF JONES ORDERS
Juniors, it is time to order your class rings and seniors it is time to think about your cap and gown, graduation announcements, and so much more. Herff Jones will be in Saklad Hall on Tuesday, October 29th, during your Leadership Advisory with an informational presentation. The following week on Thursday, November 7th, Herff Jones will be in the cafeteria during your lunch for you to place orders. For any additional information or question
