Message from the Executive Director
Thank you to everyone who attended GLOBE’s Auction on Saturday, March 23, at Napoleon's in Decatur, and also to those who took part in the online Silent Auction. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to our wonderful PTCC and volunteers for organizing such a fun and successful event!
Georgia Milestones testing will be taking place in May for grades 3 through 8. Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and readiness for their next level of learning. Teachers will also be sending out a separate email with details.
Finally, I would like to remind our GLOBE community that this coming Friday, April 4, is a normal school day. We look forward to welcoming our students back to campus on Monday, April 14.
Have a fabulous spring break!
In Community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
Language Achievement
8th grade students taking the Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Culture Exam took their practice test last Saturday at Upper Campus. The GLOBE Academy is the only school in the state of Georgia that does AP testing in 8th grade and is one of only 3 in the nation with 8th grade students taking such a rigorous test.
At the moment, GLOBE boasts the highest pass rate for 8th graders taking the AP Exam with 94% of students passing, which is a higher rate than most high schools. This year, 27 students will be taking the AP Language and Culture test in May.
New Campus update
There has been lots of progress at our new home for K through 5. The entrance lobby is taking shape. New lighting fixtures have been installed throughout the campus, along with water stations. The buildings are a hive of activity with electricians, plumbers, and painting crews. This week all the new ceiling tiles arrived, ready to be installed. To view a pdf showing images taken yesterday, click here. The most recent email update regarding the new campus can be viewed here. Please continue to submit your questions here.
Question: I wanted to know how the bus rider situation will go? Will students still be picked up and dropped off at the Exchange Center?
Answer: As of right now, buses will be operating on the same route that they have this year.
Question: With the time changes for the two campuses, what is the plan for before and after-care at each campus? Will hours be extended? What hours are currently contemplated?
Answer: We are currently in discussions about what early care will look like at both campuses and at what times it will be available. GLOBE will annouce the times before we leave for summer break, so that families have time to plan.
Question: School starting at the later time is somewhat problematic for people that have to be at work by 8am, or earlier. Would it be an option to start Upper Campus at 7:30am or 7:45am?
Answer: We have looked at many different start times to find out what would work best for our school and the traffic areas around our campuses. We also wanted to be a little bit more in line with local middle schools.
Question: What is the plan for students to get to the cafeteria from the mobile classrooms when it is raining? Right now, from what I recall, there are covered areas the students can walk under at the current campus. Also, are there any plans for a more permanent building to replace the mobile classrooms in the future?
Answer: Currently we do not have covered walkways. There are sidewalks that connect all of our buildings at the new campus. As of right now, we will utilize umbrellas and raincoats to travel between buildings when it is raining.

Both Campuses
Check Lost and Found before spring break
Lost and Found is overflowing at both campuses. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Friday, April 4. No exceptions. Thank you.
The final Dress-down Thursday is tomorrow
Help our 8th grade students raise money for their trip to Savannah by bringing $1 to dress down (out of uniform). Please adhere to DeKalb County dress code rules. Parent volunteers will be collecting money at the school entrances of both campuses tomorrow, April 3. Please make every effort to bring the exact change. Download the flyer here.
Exceptional Children’s Week, April 14–18
Ways to Get Involved
Parents and Caregivers
Join PTCC for a parent social at UC on April 17, from 6–7pm. See PTCC section below for details.
Students and Families
Posters: Create a poster celebrating a person with exceptionalities. This person can be someone famous or someone you know. Bring your poster in by Monday, April 14 to be displayed at school.
Kindness Chain: During Exceptional Children’s Week, write or draw an act of kindness you did for a classmate that day on a strip of paper. At the end of the week, all your strips will be combined to form a kindness strip to be displayed at school.
Upper Campus
Attention families of rising 6th–8th graders!
The Connections selection form is due today, April 2, by 8pm. This is your opportunity to choose the classes you'd like to take next year, including some exciting new options based on interest. One of these new classes is Music Technology, where students will learn how to DJ! If your student is interested in exploring this creative class, be sure to select it on the form.
Don't miss out – make sure your family completes the form (6th–8th grade only) by the deadline!
Finding Ollie - Season 2, Episode 12.
The Finding Ollie series of videos is produced by students in Mr Brantley's 8th grade Leadership and Communication class. Click here to view the latest episode.
Francophonie celebration

UC Clinic
Pollen decided to join us in a big way this year. Unfortunately, that takes a hefty toll on our students and staff with respiratory/asthma concerns. Parents, please make sure you administer allergy medication (to your child) before going to bed in the evening. They may follow up with a nasal spray, eye drops, etc. before leaving in the morning for school as well. Thank you.
Responsible parking at Upper Campus
In an effort to be respectful to our Upper Campus neighbors, we request that you use the designated carpool line and do not park or stop on Sunset Drive during morning drop-off / afternoon pick-up. Thank you for your cooperation.
Chorus news
We are thrilled to share the incredible accomplishments of our choirs at the Georgia Music Educators Association’s Large Group Performance Evaluation on Tuesday, March 25. For the first time, GLOBE sent the 6th grade Chorus to participate, and they exceeded expectations, receiving an impressive second-highest score with all 2s (Excellent) across the board.
Meanwhile, our 7th and 8th grade Chorus earned straight 1s (Superior) from all four judges, securing the highest possible score and showcasing their exceptional talent and hard work.
Ms. Quarterman would also like to commend both choirs for their outstanding behavior, which received high praise from event organizers. We are so proud of their achievements and the way they represented GLOBE!
Lower Campus
LC Clinic
Allergy season is upon us. Just a friendly reminder not to send medications to school with your student for them to take independently. All medications MUST have a medication administration form signed by parents, and medications must be kept in the clinic for safety reasons.
