Cedar Hill Football Earns Emphatic Playoff Opener at Pflugerville Weiss
The Cedar Hill High School Football Team proved that the District of Doom is a cut above the rest.
The Longhorns (6-5), who finished fourth in 6A-11, scored a resounding 62-0 bi-district victory over 6A-12 Tri-Champion Pflugerville Weiss (9-2) on Friday night in Pflugerville.
“We knew if we were healthy enough, we were capable of this,” Cedar Hill first-year head football coach Nick Ward said. “Weiss had some things to say before the game, and we used it as motivation. After the game, our players encouraged them keep their heads up and complimented their team.”
Cedar Hill will face North Forney (9-2) next weekend in the Area Round at 7 p.m. Friday at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite. North Forney defeated Garland, 28-21 in overtime last Friday.
The winner will meet Tomball (7-4) or Conroe Oak Ridge (8-3) in the Regional Quarterfinals next weekend.
Senior quarterback Anthony Edwards finished with four touchdowns. He completed 6 of 10 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns and also had four carries for 45 yards and two scores.. He has 14 touchdowns through six games this season. Edwards, now 5-1 as a starter, eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark and now has 1,054 total yards this season.

“If we would have had Anthony all season, this outcome would have been expected by everyone before the game,” Ward said. “Nobody would have been shocked with a 62-0 win.”
Like the rest of the starters, Edwards was on the sidelines before the third quarter ended.
Kymeion Turner was on the receiving end of both touchdown passes. In fact, both of his receptions were touchdowns, for a total of 80 yards, and he now has five touchdown receptions this season.
Dayshun Reese-Williams rushed for a career-high 150 yards. He also scored his fourth touchdown of the season in his second consecutive 100+ yard game. Zhaiylen Scott had three carries for 30 yards and two touchdowns. He now has seven touchdowns on the season.
Ward won his first playoff game as a head coach and improved to 4-1 on the road this season.
Cedar Hill first-year head coach Nick Ward won his playoff head coaching debut, and the Longhorns tripled their win total from last season. The playoff win was the Longhorns’ second win over a district champion this season. In September, they defeated eventual 6A-8 Champion Arlington Martin, 33-2.
Meanwhile, 6A-11 teams – including two defending state champions – went 4-0 in the first round.
Meet The Falcons
North Forney (9-2) advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 28-21 overtime victory over Garland. The Falcons finished third in District 6A-10 to advance to the postseason for the first time since 2020.
They went 8-0 against teams outside of Rockwall ISD but 0-2 against Rockwall and Heath, both of whom are still in the playoffs.
The Falcons and Longhorns have a common opponent in Rockwall. The YellowJackets defeated the Falcons, 65-26, and 56-21, over the Longhorns.
North Forney quarterback Tamarion Crochett has 2,285 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Andikan Asuquo has rushed for 799 yards and six touchdowns.

Jamia Johnson Named District 6A-11 Co-Most Valuable Player
In a record setting year for the Cedar Hill High School Volleyball Team, senior Jamia Johnson earned District 6A-11 Co-Most Valuable Player honors.
The Lady Longhorns finished 31-9, 10-4 in 6A-11 competition. The 31 wins were a program record. Cedar Hill defeated Copperas Cove for its first playoff victory in 11 years; they reached the second round of the playoffs, earning historic wins over perennial powers like Mansfield and Waxahachie along the way.
On Wednesday, Johnson signed a scholarship with the University of Denver.
Senior Kamryn Johnson was named District Co-Setter of the Year.
Senior Benedite Anuman and junior Tomoni Giddings earned First Team All-District, while senior Sawyer Arbuckle and junior Rylan Jones were named Second Team All-District, and senior Kasey Watkins was Honorable Mention All-District.
Senior Mariyah Johnson was named both Honorable Mention and Academic All District. Senior Kadence Busby also earned Second Team Academic All-District.
Johnson, Bailey Sign Athletic Scholarships
Cedar Hill senior Khaylani Bailey signed a softball scholarship to Dillard University, a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) in New Orleans. The Lady Bleu Devils compete in NAIA Division I.

Cedar Hill Football Alumni Update
Tulsa wide receiver Kamdyn Benjamin finished with career-highs in receptions (eight), yards (157) and touchdowns (two) in a 24-22 loss to #23 Tulane on Saturday in New Orleans. Benjamin leads the Golden Hurricane (3-7) with 491 yards and four touchdowns. His 157-yard performance was the most of any Tulsa receiver this season. Tulsa hosts North Texas on Saturday.
Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter finished with 266 all-purpose yards in five touchdowns in a 38-10 victory over in-state rival, Old Dominion, on Saturday. Salter has 30 touchdowns (23 passing, seven rushing) and three interceptions for the Flames (10-0), who host Massachusetts on Saturday. Teammate Amarian Williams had three tackles in the win. Saturday's win propelled the Flames into the Conference USA Championship Game -- they'll host New Mexico State on December 1. The Flames defeated the Aggies, 33-17, in September.
Texas A&M Commerce linebacker Jaheim Lowe recorded a career-high 12 tackles in a season finale loss to Southeastern Louisiana.
Kentucky offensive lineman Courtland Ford and the Wildcats (6-4) lost to #8 Alabama, 49-21. They'll visit South Carolina on Saturday.
Texas Tech linebacker Charles Esters III registered a tackle in the Red Raiders' 16-13 win at #19 Kansas. Tech (5-5) will host UCF on Saturday.
Sam Houston punter Jadon Cardell had six punts for 226 yards as the Bearkats (2-8) won their first-ever Conference USA game. Teammate Matthew Aribisala had a tackle for Sam Houston, which visits Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Stephen F. Austin running back Jaylen Jenkins caught three passes for 18 yards in a 45-17 loss to Southern Utah. The Lumberjacks will host Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
Nebraska receiver/running back Josh Fleeks finished with 22 yards in a 13-10 loss to Maryland. The Cornhuskers (5-5) will visit Wisconsin on Saturday.

Cedar Hill Volleyball Alumni Update
- TCU's Brianna Green had a total of 13 kills in a two set sweep at Baylor The Horned Frogs (15-12) will visit Houston on Wednesday.
- VCU's Makenzie Chambers finished with seven kills in two matches against Atlantic 10 Leader Dayton. The Rams (16-12) will open Atlantic 10 Tournament competition vs. Fordham on Friday in Davidson, North Carolina.
Cedar Hill Girls Basketball Alumni Update
- Tonight, Cedar Hill's top player from last season, Jadyn Atchison, made her college debut with eight points and five rebounds in a 97-38 win over LeMoyne. Two days earlier, the Buffaloes (3-0) upset top-ranked (and defending NCAA Champion) LSU in Las Vegas. Atchison will have a Metroplex Homecoming on Saturday when CU visits SMU.
- Wichita State's DJ McCarty scored a team-high 19 points in a 92-68 loss at Oklahoma. She followed that up with seven points, eight rebounds and three steals in a 60-41 victory over Presbyterian. WSU (1-1) will visit Belmont on Wednesday.
Weikle Leads Cedar Hill Girls Golf to Tournament Championship
Jillian Weikle finished first (98) to lead the Cedar Hill Girls Golf Team to a first place finish at the Golf Club of Dallas. Teammates Isabella Reyes and Alehya Polomo tied for second (112).
On the boys side, Julian Gonzalez won with a score of 85, as the team finished second.
Cedar Hill Girls Basketball To Play Coppell in Home Opener
The Cedar Hill High School Girls Basketball Team will host Coppell (a state semifinalist in 2022-2023) at 6:30 p.m. Friday in its home opener.
Coppell is 1-3 this season. Last season, they lost to eventual Class 6A State Champion San Antonio Clark, 49-48, in the state semifinals.
After facing Coppell, Cedar Hill will head up north to compete in the Allen HoopFest, Thursday through Saturday.
Cedar Hill (3-4) earned its first victory of the season last Tuesday at Mesquite Horn. The Lady Longhorns carried a three game winning streak into the second day of the Baytown Tournament, securing wins over Deer Park (58-31) and Dickinson (69-63), respectively, last Thursday.

Cedar Hill Boys Basketball Opens Season With Victory at South Oak Cliff
The Cedar Hill High School Boys Basketball Team opened the season with a 48-40 win at South Oak Cliff in the Jimmy Gales Showcase on Saturday.
The Longhorns (1-0) will face Fort Worth Eastern Hills in their home opener at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Eastern Hills opened its season with a 71-47 win at Keller Central.
Last season, Cedar Hill defeated the Highlanders, 53-50 in Fort Worth; Eastern Hills went on to reach the second round of the playoffs with a 26-8 overall record.
Cedar Hill will visit Wilmer Hutchins at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Last season, the Longhorns defeated the Eagles, 63-60, at Milson Gymnasium.
