What Does The Fox Say?
December 19, 2024
Dear Parent/Guardian,
When I was in elementary school, I shared a room with my two sisters. Three is a crowd but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't change it for the world. We had a single bed and a bunk bed in the room. We (us four kids) were left on our own a lot. Grandma was around but oh, poor grandma couldn't keep up. We were only allowed to go across the street to play - in essentially the parking lot of a district school building. When it was cold, we got into all kinds of messes in the house. On one such day, we were in our room and I don't know who started it but one of my sisters did one of those oh-look-at-me things. She was on the top bunk, and slipped herself down between the railing of the bunk bed and the wall and landed on the bottom bunk bed. What did my stupid child sized brain do? I was like, "I-can-do-that-too-that-looks-fun!" Except I couldn't do it and it wasn't fun. I lowered myself down. Sure enough it seemed easy. Three sets of eyeballs watching me. All fun and games until I started screaming in panic because I got STUCK. I tried to pull myself up. Nope. Not strong enough. I tried to push myself further down. Nope. Did you know there is something called a rib cage? So what did I do? I screamed and screamed and screamed some more. I was full on panicking and then started to hyperventilate and thought I was for sure going to die. Except I didn't. In my mind, it took hours to get unstuck. It was probably just a couple of minutes. All three of my siblings had to yank on the other side of the bed several times until there was enough room for me to slip out. I never did that again. I had a large red mark across my body for a while. My parents never found out. That's what foolish kids do. Get into a mess and don't tell their parents. It's a good memory though. I am so grateful for my siblings, the fun we had when we were kids, the support they gave me well into our adulthood, and I am very thankful there wasn't any permanent damage from the nonsense we did as kids. Ahead of the winter break, this is your friendly yearly reminder to check up on the kids when it's too quiet, because something might be amiss…
Together, we are Inspire.
Sincerely,
Linda August
Principal

Depression and Suicide Resource
During the holiday season and extended breaks from school, it is important to remember that these times can present challenges for our students and families who may experience a crisis event or may need assistance in accessing mental health support. We want to provide families with resources that can help in navigating through these difficult situations that may occur while school is out of session. Click here for a resource list compiled by our School Counselor, Michelle Hauck.

Enrichment Updates
Inspire Elementary, in partnership with the Inspire PTO, is excited to offer a robust schedule of after-school enrichment programs this spring! These programs are open to ALL Inspire students in grades K-5 (please note in the schedule that there are some limitations to which program students can participate in based on grade level).
- The Inspire PTO is (a) providing funding for Coach Hall's Enrichment Coordinator position (to be clear, this does not fundraise for her teaching position), (b) is covering enrichment registration for families in need of financial assistance, and (c) managing and funding the enrichment registration process.
- Coach Hall will provide the operational support. Please email Coach Hall if you have any operational questions (kerrie_hall@dpsk12.net).
- If you are a family in need of financial assistance for your student to join an enrichment program, please reach out to Inspire Counselor, Michelle Hauck (michelle_hauck@dpsk12.net) before Thursday, January 9th.
- A link for registration will be shared in WDTFS on 1/16 at 5:30am and enrichments start the first week of February.
**Friendly Reminders for Enrollments:**
Many of our enrichment programs fill up quickly, sometimes within minutes. We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the possibility of not securing their first choice to help manage expectations.
Enrollment in all enrichments is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please remember that your order is not final until payment is processed and you receive a confirmation receipt, even if it was in your cart.
Enrichments have a no refunds policy. Due to the amount of planning and work that goes into enrichments, we are unable to offer refunds for enrichments.
If a student is acting disrespectful toward the instructor, fellow students or the classroom, we will notify the student's family. If the behavior is not improved, we will notify you a second time. If after the second notification the behavior has not improved, the third notification will be grounds for dismissal from the enrichment class without a refund. All school rules apply regarding behavior expectations during enrichments.
Most enrichments run from 2:50-3:50, unless otherwise noted. Arriving late to pick up 3 times will be grounds for removal from the enrichment class without a refund.
