As we approach the start of the 2024-2025 academic year on Tuesday, we are filled with excitement and optimism for what lies ahead. On behalf of our dedicated faculty, staff, and administration, we extend a warm welcome to all our students, parents, guardians, families, and community members.

We want to express our deepest gratitude for how warmly the SK community has welcomed both of us this summer. In every interaction we have had with families and the community, it is clear how deeply you all care about our students’ present and future. While it occurred before we arrived, we also would like to say thank you for your support in passing the recent bond to build our new high school. Your investment in our children's future is truly commendable. This state-of-the-art facility will provide enhanced learning opportunities for generations to come, demonstrating South Kingstown's commitment to educational excellence. Our schools are buzzing with energy as educators, support staff, and administrators prepare to welcome students. Many have spent the summer honing their skills, developing innovative curricula, and preparing engaging lessons. We're eager to see our hallways and classrooms come alive with the energy and curiosity of our students.

At our recent convocation, we shared three key principles that will guide our efforts this year:

• Safety: We prioritize the physical, emotional, and personal safety of our students and staff. We've reviewed our facilities, operations, and safety protocols to ensure a secure learning environment. We also foster a culture where students are encouraged and supported to take intellectual risks, ask questions, and explore new subjects.

• Engagement: We strive to capture students' attention, curiosity, and passion during instructional activities. Our goal is to create a sense of belonging for each student, promoting active participation in the learning process. Engaged students are more likely to persevere through challenges, think critically, and develop a lifelong love for learning.

• Future Focus: While ensuring safety and engagement, we're committed to preparing students for future challenges and opportunities. This includes:

  • Emphasizing 21st-century skills like critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

  • Supporting career and college readiness through tailored programs and career exploration.

  • Fostering a mindset of growth and lifelong learning.
