Hat Day- September 6th
Our first Spirit Stick Competition will take place Friday, September 6th. All students are encouraged to participate in HAT DAY.
Bring a $1 donation and wear a hat all day. Beanies, cowboy hats, top hats, be creative.
Interact Students will be collecting donations and stamping hands on the stage before school. Which team will collect the most money? Which team will earn the most spirit stick points? Grade level winners will be announced at the Quarter 1 Be Red Assembly. Best of luck to all the teams!
Colts Club
Starting on Tuesday, September 3rd, our Colts Club, afterschool homework support, will be offered for students. This will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:10-4:10 in the Library. Any student is welcome to come to have a quiet place to complete work and get support from a certified teacher and National Junior Honor Society student volunteers. Don't miss out on this free opportunity for your student!
Work Habits Grading Reminder
Please familiarize yourself with our BeRed Work Habits rubric here. Teachers will asses students on work habits using this rubric. Not every habit is assessed every week. Teachers will communicate with students at the start of each week which habit will be the focus and grade for that week for their given class.
Donations
Donations Needed: Please drop off all donations at the front office. We appreciate you!
We are always looking for gift card donations of $5 gift cards to support our Be Red card Friday Drawings. Students love Fika, McDonalds, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Berry Blendz, Swirls, Target just to name a few.
In an effort to show our appreciation for our outstanding staff, we are launching an initiative to provide them with tokens of gratitude throughout the year. These tokens, though small, carry a significant impact in letting our staff know that their hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. To achieve this, we have created an Amazon Wish List filled with a variety of small thank-you gifts that our staff members would greatly appreciate. These gifts will be given out as tokens of appreciation to those who consistently go the extra mile for our students.
We kindly request your support in making this initiative a success. If you are able and willing, please consider visiting our Amazon Wish List and selecting an item or two to contribute. Your generosity will help us recognize and thank our staff for their tireless efforts in shaping our students' futures. Thank you for your continued support of our school community. Together, we can create a warm and encouraging atmosphere where our staff members feel valued and cherished!
Athletics
7th grade volleyball and 6th-8th flag football registration is open! The season begins on September 9th. More information can be found on our athletics site. You can download the Scorevision app to follow schedules and scores from Cimarron as well. If you would like to advertise on our scoreboard and app you can contact Shannon Vaughn at svaughn@dcsdk12.org for more info. GO COLTS!
Clubs
Student Council (StuCo)
This club is for students who would like to help plan spirit weeks, have a voice in our dance decisions, and enhance their team leadership role. We will meet one Tuesday a month in the Lipizzan pod to plan school wide events. Students are responsible for hyping up their team and keeping them in the know. There is an application outside of Mrs. Gillespie's room, Lipizzan pod, E201. Completed applications are due back to Mrs. Gillespie on or before Monday, August 26th. Once members have been chosen, the club is closed for the year.
StuCo Meetings
Tuesdays in the Lipizzan pod
Time: 3:10-4:00
Dates: Meeting information, calendars, and how the club works are on the StuCo page on the Cimarron website.
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
Selection for membership is determined by a faculty council and is based upon outstanding scholarship, character, service and leadership. Membership is open to members of the seventh and eighth grade classes. Sixth graders will be considered for membership during the spring semester. Candidates must have been in attendance at CIMS for at least one semester. The scholastic requirement for membership is a combined grade point average of at least 3.73 in Content Knowledge and Work Habits. Early in February, when fall semester GPAs have been determined, those students meeting the GPA requirement will be invited to apply for membership. When applications have been received, the faculty council will meet to make NJHS member selections. Eligible candidates will be evaluated by the faculty council on the basis of character, service and leadership as evidenced on the NJHS application. Members who are accepted will be notified with an invitation to attend the induction ceremony. Members who are not accepted will be notified via email. Dues are $20 per year and students receive an honor society t-shirt.
NJHS Meetings
Wednesdays in the Lipizzan pod
Time: 3:10-3:40 (maybe longer depending on the activity)
All meeting information, agendas, calendars, and how the club works are on the NJHS page on the Cimarron website.
No-Stress Book Club
At the heart of the No-Stress Book Club is the fact that members read and talk about whatever books they want to. It could be a book they just started reading, or one they read years ago and loved. Everyone reads at their own level, at their own pace, and within their own interests. During the club meetings, we simply talk about it. And it’s perfectly okay if someone doesn't want to talk or isn't actually reading anything; students can come just to listen, too.
Everyone in the group has equal say and responsibility to keep the conversation going. And, if a student misses a meeting or two or decides to join in the middle of the school year, they are not totally lost. Each week’s meeting starts and ends with that week; there are no missed plot points or questions about which book we are reading now.
And, of course, there will be snacks. What is a book club without food?!
