Bulldog Best! 👏🏽
⭐ Reach for the Stars, Bulldogs!
We are so proud of our Bulldogs! Staff and students did an amazing job last week during our Illinois Assessment of Readiness. Thank you, families, for your continued engagement and support in your child's education. Our fifth graders will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment next week.
We want to announce and give a special shoutout to our staff who recently earned tenure - congrats to Ms. White, Mr. Lewis, Ms. Dolan, and Mrs. Houston!!!
Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Lindquist and our Early Act Club have teamed up with Glad Earth Compost
and Gaia’s Market & Refillery to teach Churchill all about composting. Our first composting day was Thursday and thanks to some wonderful PTA volunteers it was a huge success - we gathered 78lbs of compost! Happy Earth Day!
Heads up! We are planning for summer school. Invitations are being sent out to those families of students who have had challenges related to attendance, behavior, and those who have received Tier 3 intervention services throughout the school year. Summer school will take place in June and at Hart from 8am-11am. Students will focus on gaining essentials skills they need to thrive in the next grade level.
Thank you to Candor Health! They gave a live virtual presentation to our 5th graders that was very informative and helpful as they continue to learn about their growing bodies. 5th graders did a good job of being respectful listeners and asking great questions.
Staff Appreciation
This upcoming week we wanted to share our appreciation for our administrative professionals. Please join me in thanking our front office secretaries for their hard work each and every day. Thank you to Ms. Barb Hogan, Mrs. Emily Dunwoody, and Mrs. Mercedes Zavala for their care and attention to detail. If you happen to call or stop in the office this upcoming week, be sure to take a few moments to express your gratitude for all they do to keep Churchill running so beautifully!
Also, our Churchill staff appreciation week is the week of May 6th. PTA would like to invite you to get involved by clicking the sign-up link below to help with a potluck on Wednesday, May 8th.
We want to make our teachers and staff feel appreciated! Please bring donations of school supplies, gift cards or other tokens of appreciation for District 153 Staff to the school offices by Friday, May 3rd, and let the office staff know it is for the PTA staff donation drive. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to your friendly PTA.

Student Information Form - Class Placement
It is so important to us that every student finds a home and a real sense of belonging while they are here with us at Churchill. We will be working very hard over the next few months to gather important information from students, parents, teachers, and administrators in order to find the best fit teacher and classroom at Churchill. Many things are considered when making decisions about class placement including social emotional competencies, academic interests and achievement, and learning styles. Final decisions about class placement take place over the summer.
It is so important that we hear from you about your child. You know your child best and the information you provide will surely help us make an ideal class placement. There is a short form you may complete to help us get to know your child better. A hard copy of the form can be requested at Willow or Churchill offices, but we would encourage you to complete the form by clicking on the button below. You will need your child’s personal ID number to complete the form - do not complete without the correct number. The Person ID has been sent in an earlier email communication, but please contact the main office if you do not have the Person ID. We ask that you complete the form online or turn in a hard copy of the form to the Churchill office as soon as possible and no later than May 31st.
We are so excited to partner with you in this work. Unfortunately, we are not able to honor specific teacher or friend requests. There are a number of factors that go into building classes and for that reason we ask that you complete the form without naming a specific teacher. We value your input and ask that you trust our process for providing the ideal learning environment for your child.
El día de los niños
The Day of the Child, celebrated on April 30, is a nationally recognized program that promotes the value of reading and healthy reading habits among all children. This holiday aims to connect kids and their families with the world of books, languages, and cultures.
In Spanish-speaking communities, it is also known as “El Día de los Niños” (Children’s Day) or “El Día de los Libros” (Book Day). Children are regarded as valuable members of society, and this day underscores the need to love, accept, and respect them. On this day, teachers in Latin American countries plan special activities for students, including games, music, and food sharing. Some families take their children on day trips, parks and sports centers organize unique activities.
Field Day Fun!
Field Day is fast approaching and one of our favorite days of the school year! All students will be issued a free t-shirt to wear on this day to show their school spirit. Complete the form below so we can get your child the right size. Also, if you are interested in volunteering, you must complete the form below. We hope you can come join the fun on Wednesday, May 29th.
