BFH Falcons View
October 28 to November 1, 2024

Principal's Message
Dear Falcon students and families,
I hope you all enjoyed this past weekend! This past week saw an incredible amount of activities by our students. Our Junior Boys and Girls volleyball teams hosted teams from all over the province at our Tri-Volley Invitational, our CyberDefense team competed in and placed 32nd out of 100 teams at the first National competition, our Falcons' Debate team mixed it up at the Lois Hole Invitational at the U of A, and our Falcons' Fabrication team attended the prestigious Wicked Welding Competition in Edmonton.
The focus of our upcoming week will be even more diverse as our FLI students engage our students in Halloween activities, we begin to host the November sitting of Diploma exams, our volleyball teams will host all the Sherwood Park K to 6 schools in the Falcon Invitational Elementary Volleyball tournament, and we hold our annual Academic Awards for 2023-2024 on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. We are looking forward to honouring all our students' successes and hopefully visiting with some of our returning graduates as we honour them that evening.
With November break only two weeks away, we also want to remind our students and parents that we are at the midpoint of the first semester, and that many important assessments and assignments will be taking place at this time. We are asking our parents to continue to communicate with their student's teachers, and to support their children as the rigor and responsibilities of the courses they are taking begin to intensify. Attendance moving forward into the second part of the semester is vital and we all need to work together to ensure that our students are attending regularly so they have every opportunity to be successful in their classes.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Facey Rocks the "Wicked Welding 2024 Competition!
Congratulations to our Falcons' Debate Team!
Congratulations to Michael Chen, Nolan C. MacLean, Tara Bhullar and Seth Brown for competing in four gruelling rounds of debate at the Lois Hole British Parliamentary Debate Tournament at the University of Alberta on Saturday. The Bev Facey team competed against 64 other students from a number of different high schools in the Edmonton and Calgary areas. The four impromptu resolutions were:
- This House Opposes the glorification of the “will to fight”.
- This House Regrets the usage of speculative fiction in popular culture to represent real-world social justice issues.
- This House Would make the number of votes an individual has inversely proportional to their wealth.
- This House Would grant the International Court of Justice independent jurisdiction to implement penalties against states that do not abide by rulings.
We would like to thank Nolan, Michael, Tara and Seth for representing Bev Facey at this prestigious event and performing extremely well at this high level of debate. Special thanks to David MacLean for coming out for the day and volunteering his time to judge.

Bev Facey School Council
Bev Facey's School Council meets every third Tuesday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in our school library. Our council is vital to our school community, and we would love to see as many parents as possible attend. This past month's meeting saw our council discuss the Alberta School Council $500 grant provided by the Alberta Government. Our council is looking for input on how to put this fund to good use. Last year they secured a successful parent's workshop on anxiety, and are looking for similar suggestions for this year. If you have an idea on how you feel the grant should be leveraged please contact the school council by their school email:

Current EIPS Students
If your child is already attending an EIPS school in the current year, you can register and pay for Diploma Prep courses by logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal the same way you usually do to pay fees. You do not need to create a new Parent Portal account to register for Diploma Prep. Once you are logged into the Parent Portal, click on the student fees icon (the green dollar sign) under the navigation menu. Click on the appropriate student’s name tab and click on the appropriate Next Step Diploma Prep course(s) in which you’d like to register. Students are not considered registered unless payment for the Diploma Prep course is made at the time of check-out.
Please note: Each of your children already attending an EIPS school must be linked to your Parent Portal account in order for you to be able to view and pay their fees through this system. Visit our PowerSchool page for instructions on how to create a Parent Portal account and link all of your children to that single account.
Non-EIPS Students
Non-EIPS families accessing Diploma Prep courses provided by EIPS can register and pay online through the Student Quick Pay system. You will need to Create Account to access the Diploma Prep courses.
If you have questions regarding Diploma Exam Prep sessions, please reach out to nextstep@eips.ca or 780-464-1899
