Bluejacket Family Communication
March 21, 2024
Dear Bluejacket Families,
We have had all kinds of excitement this week returning from Spring Break — including the chance of a Spring snowstorm that may be heading our way this weekend. This is a friendly reminder to remind children to find their snow gear and for parents to familiarize themselves with our winter weather procedures.
In recent weeks, we have been challenged by bus driver shortages, power outages, and today an internet and phone outage. I could not be more proud of how our Bluejacket staff have pulled together, adapted, and ensured continuity of learning for your children. Life is unpredictable, and modeling for our students an ability to adjust and move forward with optimism is a great lesson for our students in the long-run.
If there is a staff member you’d like to acknowledge for going above and beyond, please nominate them for recognition here.
At the district level, we are also looking to the future with hope and optimism. We are so grateful to work in partnership with families and our community. This month we are focusing on Strategy 4 of our Strategic Plan, which includes our comprehensive facilities planning. We’d like your input. We are working to collect an inventory of all concerns, ideas, and needs related to facilities. As we plan for future generations of children, as learning evolves, and as our community grows, how do our school facilities need to adapt? Please share your thoughts on this brief survey.
It’s been so great to have our students and staff back in school this week. As we rush into the final trimester, let’s make this the best year yet! Keep learning, keep encouraging, and keep reminding our kids how much they are loved and supported! It’s always a great day to be a Bluejacket!

Science is Fun!
Have you noticed we have some fun new science lessons and activities going at all of our schools? Mr. Rick sparked students' excitement last month with a Science is Fun event for third graders. The science experience was funded with an enrichment grant from the Bluejacket Educational Foundation.
Across the district, science class is anything but boring! Science teachers are delivering some new lessons this year using an inquiry-based approach that encourages students to investigate phenomena through labs and activities. ”Our Open Sci Ed curriculum kicks off units with problems that activate learners to communicate and collaborate to solve problems using hands-on learning and teamwork," said Diana Gagnon, a science teacher at Cambridge Middle School. It "allows for both a challenge and a solution. So, students see evidence of their progress and can celebrate personal growth and success from the beginning of the unit to the end. Success!” Read more.
