Cardinals Give Back Day Application Due October 7th.
With the leaves changing color and the days getting a little shorter, we will soon be preparing for the winter. While you look at your list of chores, consider having one of our advisory groups out to help you out on October 25th. Students in the past have help with a wide range of chores for homes and businesses and we are still in need of projects to help provide this experience for all of our students.
If you or a business you represent have a need for some extra helping hands this fall, please consider filling out an application for a service project. The application can be found on the school’s website at www. Fairmont.k12.mn.us, click on Menu at the top of the page, click on Documents and select “Service Project Application 2024.” Applications can also be found on the district's Facebook page and paper copies are located at the Fairmont Jr. Sr. High School office.
All applications are due by Monday Oct. 7th. Please contact Principal Brusky if you have any questions about the service project day by emailing him at cbrusky@fairmont.k12.mn.us or by calling the office at (507)238-4411. We are thankful for all the support the community has provided the school in the past. We hope our “Cardinals Give Back Day” provides you with the same pride in your local schools and serves as a model of the positive things we are able to accomplish when we work together.

Spotlight on a FJSHS Staff Member
Thank you to everyone who has shared the positive impact our staff members have had on your children. When sharing these with our staff members, there is are a lot of emotions that come up. One of the most common is surprised. Staff are working hard every day making a difference and that positive impact is not always communication. When it finally is, staff are surprised on how some of the smallest gestures can have the biggest effect. Please continue to share your perspectives on how our staff is making a difference in the lives of our future leaders.
Again, please consider recognizing one of our staff members whenever you hear the impact they have had on your student by completing the Staff Recognition Form.
Activities Director's Message
Finish Strong
We are coming down the stretch for Fall Activities. We had over 420 student athletes out for a Fall activity, and I am really proud of how everyone has competed this year as well as shown great sportsmanship at games. With that being said, “Finish the Fight” keep competing and growing as your season comes to an end. I would like to thank all the coaches for their dedication to Fairmont Activities. I would also like to thank the parents for their support this fall.

A Message from our Social Workers
Unity Day
Wednesday, October 16, 2024, is Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. Unity Day is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building COMMUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Please encourage your child to wear orange to promote inclusion on this day!
Importance of Attendance
As the first weeks of school are coming to an end, we have noticed many students are arriving late to class.
Why is it important to be on time to school?
- When students are late to class, they miss valuable instruction time and directions for assignments.
- When students arrive on time to school, they have more time to get settled in and prepared for the day to start.
- Tardiness causes students to feel a disconnect from school, which can lead to behavior issues and discipline referrals.
- Tardiness impacts other students in the classroom because teachers need to take additional time to help students who come in late to catch up.
- Arriving at school on time establishes a positive life long habit which will benefit the student when he or she has a job.
What can be done to make sure students arrive at school on time?
- Know what time the school day starts.
- Elementary students must be in their classroom by 8:00 a.m.
- High School students must be in their first class by 8:10 a.m.
2. Set a consistent bedtime routine and make sure to get plenty of sleep. Check to make sure your alarm clock is set and working each night.
3. Set a consistent morning routine. Make sure you allow plenty of time to get ready for school to avoid being rushed.
4. Make sure that supplies needed for the school day (clothes, backpack, winter gear, etc.) are set out the night before. This eliminates the rush to locate items in the morning.
5. Develop a back-up plan to use in the event that your normal ride to school is not available (i.e. miss the bus, car will not start, etc).
Consistent school attendance is a lifelong habit that we want all students to develop early! Attend Today…Achieve Tomorrow!
