Daniel Webster Elementary School
Weekly Update - January 24, 2025
Two Important Events Starting Monday at DWS
1) The Great Kindness Challenge
Our school is proudly participating again in The Great Kindness Challenge, a week long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion throughout our community. To help our students practice kindness, on Monday, students will be given a Kindness Challenge checklist. They will be challenged throughout the week to practice kindness and put their compassion into action. We encourage all students to complete as many acts of kindness as possible and turn in their checklist at the end of the week. All students who turn it in will be entered into a raffle!
2) The DWS One Author, One School Read-A-Thon
Students will be coming home Monday with a book and directions for the DWS One Author, One School Read A Thon. Books and reading schedules should remain at home. We will be supporting families with reminders and recordings of the chapters (similar to the DWS 12 Nights of Reading). Check your email on Monday afternoon for more information!

Important Car Line Safety Notice
It has come to our attention that a few families have been stopping in the crosswalk as they wait to exit the DWS driveway during dismissal. This is causing our walkers to have to walk between cars which is dangerous. As you exit the DWS driveway at dismissal, please DO NOT stop in the crosswalk. Thank you for your attention to this!

The DWS cafeteria will start serving ice cream on Wednesday, February 5th. The price is $1.50. If you are planning to have your child purchase ice cream, families can either send check/cash or electronically through myschoolbucks.com.
If you are planning to send check/cash, please send in an envelope with the child's name, teacher's name and how much they have brought it to the main office on Mondays. This will allow sufficient time for us to put the payment into the system making lunch move smoothly.

ATF K9s Visit DWS
ATF dogs visited DWS to demonstrate how they work with their amazing officers. Of course they took the chance to show off their skills! There was even time for a quick pat for each pup! I’m not sure who was happier- the students or the dogs!
Thank you to Officer Griffin for coordinating this visit!

From Chaos to Calm: Supporting your student with Executive Functioning Challenges
All caregivers are invited to a special presentation on Monday, January 13th:
From Chaos to Calm: Supporting your student with Executive Functioning Challenges
When: Monday, January 13, 2025 at 6:30PM
Where: Seth Ventress Building, 76 South River St. (Next to Fire Station) on 2nd Floor
Presented by Deb Booth from Pilgrim Area Collaborative
Register: Click HERE to register
Executive function is an umbrella term used to describe a set of cognitive processes necessary for emotional and behavioral control. In this workshop, participants will learn what executive functioning skills are and provide insight into their role in student learning and the impact difficulties in executive function (EF) skills have on school success. Oftentimes, students who appear “unmotivated” about schoolwork simply do not have the EF skills required to initiate, plan, organize and persist on school/homework tasks until completion. Parents and caregivers won't want to miss this interactive presentation that will help them gain a clearer picture of how to help their children become more successful and independent learners.
The last time this topic was presented it was a huge hit and all participants walked away with a toolbox for assisting their children and students. This presentation is something from which each of us can gain knowledge and ideas.
This will be presented by Deb Booth of PACES (Pilgrim Area Collaborative) and is brought to you by the Marshfield SEPAC (Special Education Parents Advisory Council).
